Is one like this legal? If so, where can I get one from?!

As above - the law now is quite specific. You have to have standard size lettering and spacing on both front and rear plates (look at any 'normal' number plate. Anything other than that is a nick. Round here they're real hot on it as well.

Would one with standard font and size, but with the edges cut down be ok? Any online shops that do them, or would I have to cut it down myself?

That'll be fine, can't nick you for that. Don't be surprised if you do get stopped as they will look 'different' but if they get their tape measure out they'll see the lettering and spacings are standard. Best way to do it IMO.

No thats still illegal. Jap and Yanks import cars are the only vehicles that are permitted legally to have slightly smaller plates.

you sure ?? Interesting...............have to say I was under the impression as long as the font, lettring and spacings were standard you were fine, the surround of the plate is irrelevant.

Learn something new every day..............only reason I said what I did is I ran plates like that a few years back and when I got pulled I was told they were fine.........
