WHAT`S A CAT D
Here's a list to help...
HPI Check Question.........
What do the catagories mean when is a car written off?
Answer:
Category A: Total burnout. No value left in the vehicle
Category B: Break only. Value lies in salvage
Category C: Damage to car is more than total value of car
Category D: Repair would cost almost as much as the vehicle is worth. Better to write off than repair. No comebacks for the insurers

Yeh I'd buy a Cat D BUT sooo many people buy them and forget they're effectivly worthless and want a million pounds for their cars when they sell them.
I am led to believe that insurance wont pay out as much when they find your car is a Cat D as its already been paid out on.
Best thing is buy cheap use it and sell cheap or break it when you've finished with it.

Im currently repairing a cat D golf gti it doesnt bother me that a car is on the list tbh because i always keep them for years and i never sell cars on i just break them for parts when im done with them, i have heard rumours at the local salvage auctions that all cat D cars only stay on the hpi register for 3 years now and after that if cheaked come back clean on hpi register any 1 know if this is true?
i enquired about getting an immmaculate saff cossie but was a cat d .. asked my insurance company and was told in no uncertain terms .. that if it was stolen or total loss i would receive roughly half of what it was worth as it had already been payed out on .. so if its cheap enough then go get it
The car in my sig was a Cat D.
Not a major problem if you know the extent of the damage etc..
But they can be hard to sell, it all depends on what the cars like and personal choice.

A catD on a Focus Rs.. Thats £15000 worth of damage.. must have been one hell of a smash. I wouldnt mind to much on a cheaper car as the damage doesnt have to be to bad to write it off.

don't think i'd buy one again! if you do go for one, make sure you get it up on a ramp to check for welds etc, as my cossie turned out to be a ringer. It was cat d only a few years after it was registered, must have been some huge damage, easy prey to just buy a cat d id and steal a nice one, bingo, back on the road... !
Looking back, i realise how stooopid i was!
