Default Faulty ECU????

Quick question about my small turbo escoss. i'm doing the head gasket at the moment but just before i brought it into the garage i couldnt help but noticing that when i come up to traffic lights and put the clutch in the car revs go right down (below 1000RPM) then up again. it does it about twice then starts to idel fine again. it only seems to do it when it gets walm and ive bootes it. if i drive it round just tickling it (not bringing it on boost) it seems to be fine till walm. Could it be the fact that the head gasket was on its way out or could it be a faulty ECU

Any help Would be appriciated
Thanks

Wouldnt have thought it would be your ECU, with the head gasket problems you are having it could be related, maybe check the idle control valve for starters.

Get a code reader on the ecu, it might save you hours of fruitless checking.

Mine does exactly the same as yours, exactly. Mine has just had a strip down including head gasket, mine actually stalls too...starts fine straight away. It never used to do this. The revs do the same as you, idles fine, then when you come to a rest at lights or something, it goes to abou 200rpm , then up...

IF you find the fault do let me know...cheers.

The trouble is it could be any one of couple of dozen things causing the problem, hence my recommendation to get a code reader on it. Any modifications to the car?

You must have disturbed something though whilst you were doing it, the only thing i would do is take it somewhere for a once over if you have checked all the 'simple' things ?

It can be related to VSS sensor - EEC -IV has no working idling procedures if that sensor is faulty. I had this problem on mine.

On the crosshaft that goes through sump. It's on the left hand side of the car and speedo cable goes into it it actually drives the speedo cable.

IIRC it's where the speedo cable comes out of the gearbox.

1st option is a leaking dump valve.

2nd option is a failed VSS.

3rd option is a laeking inlet gasket.

4th option is a failing AFM.

5th option is a fault in the ecu.

continue in this fashion till doomsday... lol
