Default KnN FILTER

i am considering swaping my cone filter to a KnN element in my standard air box . would i benefit from this or would it just be a waste of dollar. series2

would i have to have my car back on the rollers ?

A lot of people swear by this method. I want to keep my cone though so my bro is going to knock me up a heat shield to help it from drawing in the warm air

on mine i sawed the front of the air box of making the whole huge and put a k&n in, made a big difference in summer (had a slight boost rise due to cooler air) not much in it when its this cold tho

on mine i had standard air box with a k&n panel filter and the box has huge holes drilled in it, all along the side and a couple up front. i believe its much better than a cone.

I think Performance Ford did a review on this, it could have been in the RS Turbo Special - will have a look later.

If i remember right, overall it didn't make a huge amount of difference - the std airbox did pull in less warm air but am sure the car produced slightly more power with the K&N cone filter on - as i say it's been a while since i read the article but am bored at work so

I would like my std airbox back on next time the car is set up, as don't like the noise from the K&N and it cheesegrated my hand too many times lately when i've been messing with the car

if you use a decent heat shield you'll have no problems with a cone filter!

by putting a heat shield around a cone filter you are only recreating an air box....

the only thing the cone filter has going for it is, the un-restrictiveness of it = plenty of air.

i reckon you could get similar effect from an air box with the top half cut out the front of it..

the heat shield that i've got doesnt cover the filter,it shields heat from the top water hose away from the filter and is shaped to duct cold air around it
