there is a mark on the Distributor casing .
As you look at it from the front of the car and from above
at the 2 o'clock position.

line up the Distributor Rotor arm with that.

while keeping the Crank pully mark inline with the mark on the block,

and the two Arrows on the cam pullys pointing exactly towards
each other..

when all the arrows and marks line up.
its at standard timing mate!!

As above mate, but be very careful, when you tighten it the verniers can move a tooth the wrong way ect and it can take a while to get to spot on!!

i was under the impression that the rotor arm position wasnt overly important as the timing is non adjustable and the ecu calculates when to spark tha coil. i thought you had to get the engine on tdc firing no 1, roughly align the rotor arm to face no 1 on the cap and then make minor adjustments to the dizzy to make sure the phase sensor inside the dizzy lines up, ie the first lug on the cam should line up with the phase eye spot on. I did this to mine after a rebuild and it fired up first time.

lol your idea of spot on is abit different to mine then.....I thought you were referring to strobe timing ie trying to set up the timing to with in 1 degree of what ever spec your looking at (of which you cant do on a engine with a fixed CPS as the tdc is already preset). But yes, you do have to get the timing lined up with regards the timing marks on the aux pulley and the groove on the dizzy body......1 tooth out is alot lol.
