Air con pipe ?
Was just having a look under the bonnet of my 92 K plate Sapphire when I noticed this pipe coming from the bulkhead with a plug in the bottom. Can anyone tell me what it is ?

yes mate, that is where the condensation from the evaporator comes out
not sure that it should have a plug in the bottom though
if you block it, and run the air con, the water will have to come out somewhere, and if it can't come out of there it will just get fuller and fuller and come out somewhere else (probably in the cabin on your carpet). that will also mean that you'll probably get a bigger build up of bacteria in the system, that makes it stink when you run the blower.

Thanks Nick,
I've looked closer today in the light and took the bung out. Its actually a piece of plastic with holes in and the orange bit you can see is a very thin bit of rubber and I am able to see how the water comes out now.
Looks like it is supposed to be there after all !
I have got water under the drivers side carpet and loosing a small amount of coolant. I now expect this to be the heater matrix.

sounds like heater matrix. if it is coolant, and you've got anti-freeze in their it will never dry out, as the glycol doesn't evaporate as easily as pure water. and it will smell kind of sweet. it's not a massive job to change it, and they don't cost that much (on the mainland anyway)
Got a new matrix on its way for £36 ish delivered. I'm looking forward to moving back to the mainland this August when my posting up so I can go to motor factors etc. Once its fitted i think I'll remove the carpet and get a heater on the job. It looks like the rubber sound proofing thats stuck to the floor is soaken so I'll be on a while trying to dry it out.
Thanks for your help.
