They will fit.
In my experience, ET38 might touch the insides of the front arches, but if you drop to ET35 they might touch the outside edges of the rear arches. No real better answer than that, but ET38 will be fine. At worst you might need some 3-5mm Spacers if they do touch the front inner arches.
Go 205/40/17 for the tyres for defo.

il go with the et 38 then and buy sum 5 mm spacers if need be, ive been offerd a set of 4 Brand New 7x17 Wolfrace Octane Black Alloy Wheels. Fitted with Brand New Premium Performance 205/40/17 for £400
is this good?

Yeah, you probably won't need the spacers. Its better that they touch the inside of the front arch as this won't damage the tyre, unlike if they touch the rear! Although the MOT guy may be interested, thats the only issue.
Regarding that price, a set of 17" wheels with tyres for £400 is certainly not to be sniffed at. If they are from an Alloy Wheel dealer, I would ask for a price with a better tyre. You never know, maybe they will do a proper branded tyre for a little extra money. Worth an ask IMO.
