My brother has got a 1.4 golf 1992 and its not starting. i wasnt getting a spark from the coil pack at all. so we got a new one and when fitted still there is nothing.

i think the fault is with the wiring to the coil pack.

there is a black cable which i think is a live for it. but it is not live.


does anyone know what of the 3 cables going to the coil pack do what.

and if any are lives or switched lives do you know if they are are wired from the fuse box/battery/ecu etc.


1 of his mates who is one of these blokes who thin they know everything, but dont decided to run a cable direct from the battery and connected it to the black cables going to the coil pack.

this made the car start, but it still wasnt quite right. it didnt start every time, but did start a couple of times.


any ideas on this would be apreachated, as he has just passed his test and wants to get out driving asap, and cant till he starts his car.

no its a carb model i think.

to be honest i cant really say i noticed. i only looked under the bonnet for a couple of minutes.

its injection, all mk3 golfs were.....not that that helps. hope u get it sorted mate
