Default escos rep or not?

right,im thinking of doing an esccos rep,as im only 20,so cant afford the ins any way, plus im too poor to buy a real one! so im going to build myself a rep, things i was wondering is 1.shall i use a genuine arch kit, bumpers, ect 2.i want to build myseld a 2L zetec turbo unit, but wot wiring loom would i use,or would i need to get on made and where?, 3.alsowhere can i get all the interior from ect,and can i use a standard 2wd saff tunnel,or does it have to be a 4wd esccos tunnel?

all your comment will be helpfull guys, cheers

The proper kit is a non starter as the rear wheel base is different on the Escort Cossie to all other Escorts. You will have to spend a lot of cash to get the rep looking anything like the real deal and then the traffic light grand prix will show up the cars real identity.

Insuring a Cossie look alike is also usually not far off insuring the real thing.

The work involved to convert a stcok Mk5 Escort to 4x4 or RWD and then building a ZT motor properly will not be far off buying you a proper Escort Cossie

In short mate hold out and get a realone in a few years

if the reason you want to do it is because you cant afford an esccos, then you really haven't costed up how much replicas cost

might be worth trying to pick an escort up thats already had the kit put on it? (as long as its been done well they look fine i reckon)

Then you can do what you like with the engine etc (may save quite a lot of cash)

i would have thought it would be well worth looking, its would save you so much time and effort which you could put into a nice powerful fwd engine& box

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/escort-coswort...QQcmdZViewItem

this sort of thing .....

Even tidying that up and getting the correct style lamps and exhaust will be a shit load cheaper than having it built yourself.

seriously, your lookin at majot grief to put a "false" tunnel in,itd probably be cheaper to get a written off saff cos and reshel the bits into a escort cossie shell or something!

so a zt engined cossie rep? itll be mucho expensive fella!but.....who am i to tell you this, its your dream motor so try to make it work as well you can, id go with a rst or zvh engine, with 200 odd bhp the speed wont be massively different on the move, costs will be down etc....

Am not trying to be funny but if you cant afford a proper cossie then DONT bother trying to copy
Just stick with a nice s1 or s2 save alot of time and waste of money.
All the so called replica SHEDS out there need to be crushed they are putting on of the best ever cars to shame

hundreds of others aswell mate its so insulting to the owners of poper escos im mot trying to put you down yeah you cant afford it i would love a farrei enzo but im not going to turn a old mr2 into a look a like
A replica is not even a rs so cant even go on show at Rs shows or club meetings hence stick with a RST

if i wanted an rst though i would have brought one of them by now though,im not going to go up to people and say 'oh look at my cossie'ill say look at my escort,i dont mind saying it a replica,i just like the look of escorts,im too young to insure one,and cant afford one yet,so ill make do with second best for now,im doing it for myself, because i like them!it will allways be a rep and i know that!

How is it insulting, i thought it " imitation was the sincerest form of flattery" i dont see a problem, unless like that ebay one, with a electronic dump valve O and at 20 he will struggle to insure a rst.

you want to put the tunnel in so the interior looks right?

Im not being funny mate, but i think you are REALLY missing the bigger picture.

Seeing as you wont be declaring it to the insurance (would be dearer to make and dearer to insure than a real saph cos) anyway, why dont you just buy a stolen escort and stick a set of plates on it from a 1.6 escort?

S2's don't look half as good as a good Escos rep to me, plus you get the power steering in the mk5 and can easily put an RST lump in and equal or better an S2's performance.
