H guys im looking at a s2 rst in the morning what are the main things to look for cheers guys p.p

 

oh where to begin????????

rust!!!!!!!!! on the sills, battery tray, rear arches, floor, rear chassis legs, rear suspension arms, a pillars and around wind screen. and on the roof (all turbos have a sunroof, make sure it works!)

check all of the pannels gaps and the weld on the front wings, turrets and slam panel for damage or repair.

check all of the wheels sit right in the arches (ie not to much camber)

check for play on the turbo shaft, look for smoke on cold start indicating worn valve stem seals, smoke when baking of (shagged turbo ) and smoke in general (head gasket) look for over heating, oil leaks, loud rattiling. should come on boost at around 3000 rpm, make sure it drives smothly without hesitation, backfireing.

find out all modifications and that they have been done proffesionally.

listen for whining from gearbox.

check general condition of vehical as some parts (especxially interior trim are hrd to replace).

if in doubt, just walk away as there are plenty of them around

well i travelled up to derbyshire 150 miles to ashfield motorsport and looked over his s2 rst and letsjust say i had a big grin all the way home. ..paid Ł2k, its white, 91k just had rebuilt engine with 2l zetec bottom end mahle pistons uprated cam vernier pulley ported/lowed head, cossie t3 hybrid turbo, 5 inj, intrior is very clean and bodywrk in general is very nice, theres a few bits of bodwork im going to sort but nothing major im just going to enjoy it til summer then see what happens.....cheers to zippyobrien for his early morning reply which really helped

as an after sale bit of advice, get it checked out by a tuner (i.e, air/fuel ratio, oil pressure, fuel pressure)

do this before taking it for a hammering other wise you might blow your lump like me lol
