Is it possible to use a bluetooth GPS receiver and then use autoroute 2004 as a satelite navigation system?
Any info greatly recieved

it should be, but i don't know how exactly.
when you go to configure the gps sender in autoroute, it asks for the COM port, so i guess that you have to configure the bluetooth to a COM port.

The GPS unit drivers will (probably - can't say for sure as not done it) configure itself under a virtual com port, find out what this is in device manager then make sure you configure Autoroute accordingly.
Job done.

So a laptop, GPS on a COM, and a TV screen, and you've just saved yourself 300 quid - keep us updated Gracie this sounds interesting! I like Autoroute it is fast, accurate and easy to use. I never knew it also had GPS capability.

I already have a dash screen in one DIN, very trick but only RCA inputs - it came with a Jap AVIC DVD navi centre, but unfortunately the remote was missing...so I've been thinking about other good systems, unfortunately nearly all nav systems today only work with the screens of the same brand (no standard connections)...
So a system which just plugs into the RCAs under the front seat would be ideal, plus it wont be seen and wont be nicked as you can take the laptop with you.
TomTom on a palm or whatever is fine but all the mounting kit etc. is a bit in your face, plus they can be slow depending which maps you have loaded.
One question - can AutoRoute adapt to the small screen format? Like just putting arrows up or basic maps? Because a tiny screen wont help at all, obviously data input will have tobe done on the laptop. Does Autoroute also talk?

I have Tomtom already for pukka sat-nav, but i'm going to be installing a PC into the cossie for when we goto Germany, using a DIN sized slide out and fold up touch-screen display, this will allow me to use the PC for everything - MP3 player thru the car sterio, sat-nav, video recorder for the cameras to be mounted on the car and other nice toys too, not to mention dvd player etc etc
the whole thing will cost me in the region of about 300 quid
i'll be keeping you all updated on it aswell
also, does anyone know if you can get an adaptor to allow the propper wired TomTom gps receiver (the silver square) to be plugged into a serial port on the PC - as it has 4 wires (2 data and 2 power) and plugs into the RS232 port on the cradel for the XDA - would save me buying another GPS receiver then

S1 2oobhp - you have PM
also, i've found an adaptor from RS Components - they are the only people who do the adaptor, now to get the pinout for the tomtom rj11 plug
as you have to push the crimped wire/pins into the chosen holes on the D-plug
- and its only £2.69
