Default 24v 0-60

Did my first ever 0-60 run using a Gtech Pro yesterday. Found a nice level stretch of road but did have 3 people in the car and a boot full of tools. Got a 0-60 of 6.45 secs which I thought was pretty good for a first attempt.

I couldn't hit 60 in 2nd though so needed 2 gear changes. Is it right that a sapph cossie can do it in 2nd gear? Just want to compare it with a standard saph.

Got a 500 Kb mobile video of it launching. Looks well quick. Don't know how to host it though.

we loose at least half a sec for a gear change so standard YB cossie should do it in late 5's early 6's

I'm really careful with my gearbox normally and never drive it that hard so was well surprised just how hard it launched.

So a cossie will only need 1 change to hit 60. That makes my time pretty good then. Cheers.

yeah cossie box is longer

thats a cracking time for 3 people and a boot full of tools

if only the car could rev that extra bit or make the box longer then would be a cool comprison

Cheers for the link. To be honest I think the extra weight helped the traction as I did a second run with just me in the car and only got 7.3 and had a bit of wheel spin at the start. Didn't want to risk the box after that so bottled it.

bal the 4x4 box cossie or xr4x4 is basicly the same box. its just a 24v cossie motor with standard ecu will only rev to 6000 rpm

So you bounce on the fookin limiter just before 60 mph

yeah i know about the 4x4 cossies, i assumed he was talking about th t5 box , sorry was thinking about jims rwd 24v engine when i typed

still impessive

thats also i supose why you cant fit a taller box to a 24v engine as i supose it could actually slow it down for the sake of a gear change

i do like 24v engines though , sound cool and also have a noce controllable power band too

that does look quick in that vid!

when i had a go of lennie's for the PF shoot i was shocked at hpow quick it got off the line, it'd been so long since i'd launched a 4x4! the 2nd gear 60 thing is v. annoying i must admit but makes the 0-60 time all the more impressive.

also a std cossie is in the low 6s 0-60 (with v. excelent driver) not the 5s

well done jimbo

Cheers Jim. 4x4 is fantastic for launching as it has very little wheel spin and really goes. Gotta love the V6 exhaust note as well.

Did you ever find out what 0-60 times you and Lennie got as it didn't say in Performance Ford.

lennie's got "lost" by the timing gear we were using (the good PF one broke, we borred another one) but i never did ask nick if he still had mine. he'll probably have forgotten by now anyway.

in our side by side run up the strip lennie was about 2 car lengths ahead of me by 60mph and it wasnt till 3rd gear that mine really opened up and passed him. Also lennis has/had a knackered gearbox and took about 2 seconds to engage 2nd gear, PLUS he'd never launched a car before... makes the getting off the line quick seem all the more impressive!

I find it a lot easier to launch the 24v quicker than the 4 pot turbo, although the cossie turbo is faster if i get it correct

The 24v is a far better everyday/ town car, so much easier to drive

How fast was your top end Jim ? I can't find the mag

Mine done 140mph and still accelarating pass the timing beam. Never done a 0-60mph but about 6.5sec i would think.

Steve.

agree, the 24v is far more forgiving, and is one of the reasons i like it so much, even if you do get it wrong and bog it it only takes a fraction of a second to get on power.

top end was just a tad under 135 i think. thats the limiter in 5th
Was hitting it at under the half way mark at brunters.

speedo is well off the (150mph) clock by then

Seems strange mine will do over 140mph and yours don't.

I have a 4x4 LSD + 205/40/17 tyres on mine.

I been trying to sort my speedo out, using a 3.64.1 granny lsd with a mt75 2.9 box rwd and standard ratio's. Cant find the correct speedo drive for the box, got a 170mph clock and a 3.64.1 drive but its about 15mph out when goin over 50. Pain in the arse!!!!

Snow tyres might be just the ticket if the weatherman is to be believed.

I did the run on the A20 between fiveways and mottingham station turn-off (nice and level). The bit on the video is the second run, slightly uphill at Badgers Mount.

I'll give you a bell in the week.
