Hi lads,I'm being watching all these proper spray painters on tv,shows like American Chopper,Biker Build Off etc etc and notice that after they've sprayed and lacquered a tank/mudguard etc they rub it done with fine sandpaper.Seen them do this on American Hotrod too.Can any experts on ere tell us what grade sandpaper this is,why its done etc etc. What the proper procedure when spraying???Is the paint rubbed down between coats etc etc???Any help from those in the know would be welcomed. Thanks in advance,Micky
When i do small bike parts, I've used grades up to 12000 and start from 1200 like Damo says..
With a polishing compound they come up a treat
Here are two parts i done a few weeks back of an old BSA a friend is restoring
( This hasnt been polished yet either!

It's commonly know here as wet sanding (wet sandpaper and dish washing liquid). As stated above, the process allows for the removal of any imperfections and also a better shine. After the car is completely sanded rubbing compound is applied using a buffing machine, this gives you that smooth as glass finish. The final step is hand polishing for the shine.
