McLAREN SIGN ALONSO FOR 2007
By Alastair Moffitt, PA Sport Motor Racing Correspondent
McLaren today stunned Formula One by announcing they have signed world champion Fernando Alonso for the 2007 season.
Alonso won his world title in a Renault and is contracted to the Anglo-French team for next season. However, he will now switch to McLaren for 2007, meaning either Kimi Raikkonen or Juan Pablo Montoya will be forced out.
The moves comes just days after McLaren signed a lucrative sponsorship deal with Vodafone.
Team boss Ron Dennis said: “It’s great that our strong belief in the strength and competitiveness of the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes package has been further endorsed by the world champion.”

Wow that's awesome
Montoya is my fave F1 driver just cause of his all round attitude etc. Very cool guy. But I can't see Ron letting Kimi go so it looks like curtains for old Juan Pablo....

I believe Kimi has signed a agrement with Ferrari for 2007 to be the team leader, Mclaren announced this first so it looks like Ferrari have not beathen them on his services. IIRC Ferrari will run in 2007 with no other sponsership in the car it will just be red and white so it looks like a packet of cow boy killers. No branding on the car but it would be the colours of a packet of marlboro. In turn Philip Morris will make up all the Ferrrari budget short fall.
Kimi could be on his way to Ferrari, Felipa De Messa is only got a contract for 2006, but so has Michael
Would think Ron would want to keep him on, but can you see Kimi and Alonso both at McLaren.
Can't wait to see RBR with that Cosworth engine though, revving to 20k
Question now is will Renualt stay in F1, new management has already said the will only stay if they can get something out of it.
