Default timing and smoke

WHEN I MANAGE TO START MY ERST THE TIMING IS WAY OFF.

The garage timed it and when started it idles at 2000rpm.

how can i lower this to 1100rpm? does it have to be done proffessionally or can i do it myself?

also when it starts it sheds out a ton of white smoke before it warms up....is this bad news??

have a look at the top of the rocker cover, you will see the throttle cable going into a bracket.

Wind the plastic screw thread in and you will hear the idle speed drop

Dont know about the smoke, are you sure its not just steam cos its very cold weather at the moment?

Matt_B ERST's dont have a screwy type windy thingy bob on them.....

On the throttle housing on the opposite side to the throttle cable u will see the idle screw pointing downwards, this adjusts idle, (THE PROPER WAY )

I'd find out whats causing the smoke first though as i expect the problems are linked. Sounds like headgasket

Are the coolant/oil creamy????

DON'T adjust that. It is set so that the TPS works properly. Alter the idle speed by screwing in the screw on the throttle housing.

Mine does, to adjust the tension on the throttle cable!!

Mine was wound in dead far and was idling about 600 rpm, wound it out a bit and now it is fine
