Default Too much boost......

I've fitted a new turbo to me erst (stage 3 hybrid) and i've got a strange problem with it makin too much boost! I set the actuator the same as the one previously fitted and only want it to make 14psi for now. It'll do this in 1st and 2nd gear but when i give it some in 3rd, 4th and 5th the boost shoots up to over 20psi! Even when i wind the screw on the bleed valve right in it still produces 20+psi!! Never had this problem before and i was wonderin if anyone can shed any light on the situation???? Cheers in advance.

Dave

how did you set the actuator? did you use a proper pressure tester?

Bleed valve may be leaking. What actuater have you got on there.

Na, didn't use a proper tester to be honest! Never used one in the past tho and not had the same problem! Just a bit baffled why it only overboosts in 3rd, 4th and 5th??? It's a new -31 actuator. Have to get hold of a pressure tester i spose.

The reason it boosts more in 3rd onwards is the engine is under more load. This always happens on big turbos, they will not produce their full boost in the lower gears. The actuator setting u used before means nothing. You should set the actuator to half a hole preload, that is the longest the rod can be, and with the bleed valve totally closed, this will be the lowest boost you can run.

Secondly, you need to get the car setup, as your going to melt it. The new turbo will be flowing a lot more air than the last.

Rick: Cheers for the advice mate!
I am plannin on gettin it setup asap, which was why i only wanted to run it on low boost till then! Obviously as it is at the moment i just don't give it any after 2nd....cos like u say it WILL melt it!
