I've got a Sony DSC-P51 and I love it, but it's £200 plus.
My Uncle got one off E-Bay for about £60 brand new and to be honest it's bloody good value for money. The guys got loads on there, not a known brand but does the job.

In my opinion you can't beat this (vfm-wise):

A group of us have the Canon IXUS series here. I have the IXUS500. Got it from pixmania.com who get it from France. A lot cheaper than the UK but best if you know someone who can you can photocopy the instructions off as they are in French!
Great camera though and well easy to use.

there's a nice new one out from Minolta Dimage X31.
3 megapixel which is enough really and a 3x optical zoom that is built into the housing so it keeps the camera small.
you can take a picture less than a second after switching the thing on, which i think is the best feature that a digicam can have.
all depends what you want to use it for of course, but for snapshots and always carrying it around, i will be getting that model.
it's around 160 quid i think in uk, i can get it for 160 Euro

mate you want to get a good camera thats cheap, easy to use and better value than all of the above?
get a Canon A80. Read any review they give it top marks and its under £200 RRP makes it unbeatable value for money.
its got 4mp, 3x optical zoom, is fully auto but has the facility to be a manual camera.
worth every penny.

Be very careful when buying camera's..... I've wnaked £100's before on getting ones that don't do anything apart from take a still picture of my granny sleeping!!
First of all think about what you want to use it for.... if you looking at a point and shoot for still photography there are many to choose from. Be very careful about getting over excited about the mega pixels..... in all reality this don't mean everything..... it's the actual focal quality of the lens you have to consider and the way in which the chip interprets colour, white balance and all that stuff to make the image realistic. Also be aware that a 3x zoom lens is ok only for fairly close up subjects.
If your thinking of having a camera for action shots, you really need to go for something with proper lens and fully manual functions for shutter speed, aperture etc etc.
Horses for courses at the end of the day. While point and shoot cameras are ideal in certain situations they are limited.

£460
Are you sure mate?
I bought mine when they had just come out, so I admit I paid the premium price.
Based on what I have this is the current high street prices....
300D Body with 18 - 55mm lens + 1GB Compact Flash Card £950.00
Canon 75 - 300 mm zoom lens £149.00
Battery Grip £150.00
Extra Battery £50.00
Total=£1299.00
You may of course find prices a little cheaper from surfing on the net, but note that is a complete kit but does not include camera case and tripod.

the Canon A80 uses a asphirical lens which is perfectly shaped to allow the max amount of light in so it could all be used up when shining on to the CCD.
The problem is with cameras is you must get one with a balance of CCD and lens. lens matters but so does CCD. if you put in a big CCD capable of 5 megapixel and put a tiny lens on the front of it. you will find it will never get enough light in to do it justice as the amount of light hitting the CCD will not be enough. However if the lens has been optimized and built to work with that CCD it will let in enough light to do justice to the CCD as enough light would be put through the lens to maximise CCD.
The Canon also runs a individual processing unit called digic. Digic controls light, clarity, colour, and works closly with iSaps which is canons libery of photography.
the Canon A80 is a great camera for someone not looking to spend big money. You would be amazed at how many other manufactures use Canon lens and brand them as there own.
As for the 300d, it uses a CMOS sensor. This uses less battery power and is alot more effective. depending on what lens you use on the camera you will get great results. The CMOS sensor on the 10d is slightly different as it is more sensitive. i am currently using a 300d and feel its a great camera for the money but when you put a L seris lens on it the weighting of the camera goes all funny.
personally the 10D is still a better camera. But thats if you can get one. I will be getting a Canon 1ds for usage in a few weeks. let u know what its like. Should be good.

Not in fagin's class or price range but heres a few pics taken with the Canon Digital Ixus II... chosen by me for use at events
due to being one of the worlds smallest camera's that still retain
decent picture quality..
Again the pics are descaled from the source item due to hosting restrictions although i could e-mail originals to those interested..

Heres the one in question: http://www.canon.co.uk/For_Home/Prod...PageID=26181#1
Quite cheap now i expect and smaller than 20fags too

JRST,
Would be interested in the results of the 1DS, but at a price of £6k for the body only I would expect it to give me a blow job as well!!!

i will do. i'll post some pics. when i get the chance.
however i must say the best camera i have used so far is the Canon G2 or the Canon S45. no fringing, perfect colour, and G2 had a F2.0 lens.
if you can get one cheap. buy it. !!!!!

stu your results are very good. But remember these are all outdoor shots where there is alot of natrual light. Try in door pictures. with it. than compare it to your kart shaun.

The horse shot especially was shot with flash.

The last shot highlights a shortfall with the camera IMO, it really struggles to capture Smokestone Blue without colour bleed...
stu very nice. your quiet the photographer.
all that food has made me hungry.
stu, the important thing is that this camera does what you want it to and it does. For you this is a great camera. others needs are different.
i am just stating my view.

Not sure TiB would appreciate that comment! roflolI would never compare an indoor picture with that of outdoor unless I had proper lighting in the first place..... otherwise it is a waste of time. Either that or I would have to get my tripod out and leave the shutter open for 30 mins!!!
Found the Canon 300D even cheaper now!
