Default 1st Gear Problems with RS1800

I just wanted to know if somebody else may have this problem. My RS1800 fester seems to jerk quite abit when I pull away in 1st gear. Other Speeds and gears are quite smooth it's just from 0 to whatever in first gear. I have to be quite careful with the clutch as the exhaust seems to make spluttering and coughing sounds and unless I up the revs quickly it sometimes feels like it may stall on me in first gear.
I've changed the Spark plugs recently and put some of that injector cleaner stuff in the petrol tank DTP or something I got from halfords and it seemed to make an improvement but the first gear startup still seems to be a problem. Not that I want to or anything but at this rate I'll never beat anyone at the lights.
Does anyone know this problem and what it may be? If you do it'll be greatly appreciated

does the engine seem abit lumpy on tick over and generally abit sluggish?? if so try a new dizzy and rota arm, if not then could be the clutch release bearing or e a sticking cable??

Many Thanks Guys on this, been a bit busy as late only just seen your posts, but it's not generally a major problem with the car it's just it could be a bit smoother in 1st gear. I feel the car may need a new clutch soon it's got a low bite point and quite stiff so maybe?

Sounds like the diaphram springs are snapping, so the release bearing isnt going in square and there fore the pressure plate isnt pulling away straight, the pedal should feel very nice and smooth and easy, is it very progressively stiff then just suddenly snaps and goes easy?
