Default Category D write-off - to buy or not to buy decision

Some of you may have read the message yesterday on my latest car dilemma: Buying a 52 plate Focus that’s now a cat D but has been repaired.

After looking at the car twice, talking to you peeps and mates of mine I decided that I would buy it despite being a cat D

The seller was reluctant to voluntarily give out information so it’s a good job I took along my right hand man (well done Steve), I found out the extent of the damage. The car has been fixed now but it’s had ............ a new front wing, light unit, front bumper, battery box, and other engine bay fixings (not structural and suspension was not effected APPARENTLY ) Also a new windscreen and a driver side window (the car was broken into in the repair yard and had radio stolen :x ) That’s all I know but I suspect more

The car looks mint now as all repairs have been done and to me it looks perfect, Steve did check the car for me and has given it the all clear

As long as it stays all good news then i'm happy and I consider it a good buy at the moment lol I think it was worth £4,000, now I can start to think of what mods im going to do as im now an official Focus Owner

Thanks again peeps ur all stars

the windscreen would have had to have been replaced due to the passenger airbag going off...always breaks the windscreen

There's probably nothing wrong with the car, in fact if it's had any welding done and been done properly, it's possible that it's stronger than other focus'.

Personally, I wouldn't touch a CAT D car because of the same reason you posted on here and you can guarantee other people have been hesitating over buying this car.

When you come to sell it, it will take alot longer unless it's stupid cheap compared to others of same spec.

Sassy and Guzzlers old 3 dr is the prime example, it was stunning but took quite a long time to sell.

It took me less than a week to sell the same car to Guzzler so there is always somebody out there for for everything as long as its priced right!

What year is a 52 plate car? I have a 2003 model focus zetec 1.6 bought brand new and with only 17,000 on the clock is apparently worth around £6000 and ours is under dealer warranty still with perfect hpi listing so use this as a basis for your price.

Well it was registered in 2002, it has 11,000 miles on the clock, i was looking at forcourt prices and they can be in the region of £5,500 to £7,200 depending on moda, spec, extras etc . . . I am quite happy with my buy , the only thing im let down by was the amount of damage caused and which i only found out about because steve was digging and pressuring for extra details
