too much pressure in the crankcase, its really really bad, my old xr3i did that and then 12 miles later the entire bottom end threw in the towel

Blow by on the piston rings. Go the same on my FRST which is why I'm doing a rebuild over the Winter.

Try a new oil cap and cleaning all the breathers out as a first port of call

Dunno as I've never done a standard one The one in my Escort was about the Ł2400 mark. I'm expecting the whole build on the FRST to be about the Ł2k area

Check your breather system before worrying about a bottom end re-build.

Yeah, i had problem oif Mayo, trying to blow cap off (screw in type) and dip stick out on my 1800 CVH sierra! It was cause i had a Piper-x filter fitted and numpty at garage hadn't done anything to sort out breathing!

I was shatting at first, thought rings had gone! Fixed it, did another 20k and still going strong (until some tit hit me)

as scotish greg says clean all the breather pipes out and replace if needed they usualled cause excess crankcase pressure.check these first before thinking about a rebuild. good luck m8 hope it works its definately the cheaper option!

buy a haynes manual

clean the breather pipes as said (all the black pipes coming off the rocker)

i doubt its that tho the cvh does tend to get tired and worn around the 90 - 100k mark

common problem at higher revs - couple of zip ties to hold cap on and then fit a decent Bailey type breather system with catch tank etc - breathe to atmosphere don't try to recirculate the air

Zippying on the oil cap isn't curing the problem. It's a bodge. If changing the breather system doesn't cure the problem it is suffering with blow by on the rings. Only way to sort this is to change them
