Hi
I have a S2 RS Turbo, i have no idea about mechanics.I had been advised my top radiator hose needed replacing.So i thought i could manage that. As i took the old one off,it seemed to be oil seeped out at the hole nearest to the front of the car possibly the radiator like i say i dont know ,i replaced it very quickly with the new one but i did lose some oil.Do i need to top up or should be ok.Or have i done something very wrong.Dont have much of an idea,but we all have to start somewhere.

should be no oil in your water hose mate put your finger in the header tank is their any oil their????

 

Im not sure its a water hose,it is like like the shape of a question mark with a small pipe going to left towards the turbo.

 

does it actually connect from the top of the radiator to the thermostat housing 9this is where all the other water pipes will be heading_ and a small pipe with a diameter of maybe a cm to the turbo if so its a water pipe, and if you have oil in their head gasket most likely, check your header tank has it got oil in it?

 

That sounds like the intercooler hose. It goes onto the pipe going over the top of engine and is about the diameter of a coffee cup. The top radiator hose is the smaller diameter hose in an "L" shape directly below it and goes on the the thermostat housing on the side of the engine (cylinder head).

Your intercooler/tubo/induction (pick your own terminoligy, they all mean the same thing) pipe will always have a thin coating of oil in it due to the fact that the turbo will always pass a very small amount of oil past it's seals. If it starts to pour oil out then it's indicative that the turbo is on it's way out.

If the hose keeps filling up with oil, I would start looking at having your turbo reconned.

P.S. It's always a good idea to check your oil and water levels. You can never check things like this too much. Don't over fill either the header tank with water/anti freeze or the engine with oil.

If you over fill the oil, it will try and force the excess out which means blowing it past seals and such like. If you over fill the header tank, the same will happen. The pressure build up will force out the excess water and you will think that it's over heating when all the water is doing is trying to expand into space that isn't in the tank any more.

 

Yeah, deffinately sounds like the intercooler hose. If you look sufsRS signature, it is the only visible hose (the black one, bottom right, shaped like a question mark).

As DazC said, it is normal for a thin layer of oil to be on there, but excess amounts means your turbo is possibly in need of a rebuild.

 

As first mentioned You sure it's not the water pipe from the thermostat housing to rad / turbo ?
