Default FAO Welders! Price (ish) needed! Battery tray mk4 escort! :)

Hi Guys,

How much am I looking to pay to get it fitted? Finding it hard to get quotes as I cannot take the car to bodyshops and not many are willing to come have a look at it

Once I have found somebody who can do it on my drive or will give me a price I will have to trailer it to them!

seen some F/G reg cars with wax backed sound proofing and they are worse to weld. Found I had to pull the dash out or it was a fire hazard.

Earlier ones are not as much of a problem.

Price would depend on if you wanted it 'just welded' or you expect it to be 'restored'

Big difference.

And £100 sounds cheap.

i payed 60 quid for one years ago and the burn all the wax backing you mention

100 quid is the norm mate, restoring and removing the old one nd fitting a replacement pannel are the same surely

you aint gonna lead load the batt tray are ya

weld, seal and repaint, its just to hold the battery after all

proper

please discribe whats proper about a bat tray

tell me whats soo different that it takes 285 quid in labour as the replacment panel is about 15 quid

how many hours it take to be done proper then ????

now dont get me wrong as a bad job WILL leak like a fooker and thats bad but the replacement pannels are ok tbh and mine was spot on apart from the burnt sound deading

for 60 quid they prob ujst ground the old "tray" off then just welded the new section with tray attatched over the top...

having it done properly would involve cutting all the old shit out, replacing any bits of the bulihead which have also gone aswell as the inner wing, so you have something to weld to, weld the new unit in, grinding all welds smooth, filling joins and paintng underneath aswell as above...

See Tonys thread near the beginning to see what I mean.. look in his bay and there is NO WAY of telling its EVER had a tray... though I put on the third of its life

mine wasa good job and it wasnt just gound off either as the back of the bat tray was totally fooked, but i may have been lucky supose

the batt tray on my tennis was replaced and i had no way of telling,,,,,,,,,, WELL apart from when i cleaned the bay wioth thinners and noticed they matched the paint to the dirty white that the bay was paintied, now i got a dirty white paint and the rest of the bay it super clean white

heres a strange thing though, the 2 orions ive got and my escort cabrio that i use has never had a batt tray and they aint rusy either

why could that be

somebody needs to learn how to weld

to do a batt tray properly like moose said £400
that includes droping dash
cutting out out tray n metal welding it in
linishing it
filing it
priming it
painting it
and if you add it up thats cheap really
2 day job
workshop needs £80 a day to keep running
working for £100 a day
leaves £40 for materails

i would weld one in for £120 cash with no painting or welding inside

Thats mine

I have the panel! I am planning to prime and paint it myself so I will be able to prep it also! I just need the actual welding doing and I can do the cosmetic side of it

I can do most of it myself like remove the dash, prep and paint it!

I just basicly need the panel cutting out, new one welding in and then the welds tidied so I can smooth, primer and paint the bay

I will supply this

also

There are no other spots I can see (There is only the fusebox and gearbox left in the engine bay and no carpet inside)

Then there is a slight buddle on roof and inside the boot it has been abused but I have temp fixed that for now!

Sound proofing is coming out anyway cos I am replacing it! Dash can come off too before it goes away!
