Default pros and cons of a dogbox

as title says?

looking at getting sum short of uprated gearbox for my pulsar (yes i knw its not a ford) but this is the fountain of all knowledge

as some of you mite knw the pulsar box keeps breaking the end casing apart with high power, due to the helical cut gears. so im thinking the straigh cuts gears will stop this.

but chip said they will need rebuilding about 20k miles. so if anyone has any experance with dogbox's please share. what they like to live with?

creedy

P.S. the dogbox kit is a PPG kit from oz

Pro's

faster and clutch free gear change, so also stops the chance of slippin clutch on gear change,
normally stronger, and take more power due to straight cut gears

Con's

rebuildin cost are high as need to be rebuilt more often,
harder to drive, can be a night mare round town,
their usually louder, due to normally bein straight cut gears.

That's a dog-leg first, not a dog engaged 'box.

I believe you can get a stronger sandwich plate on its own.
Either PPG or Giken, forget which.
Dog boxes on the road are just hopeless...

mine is no problem to live with, certainly no harder to drive with than any other box, noisey - yes rebuilds well , i suppose this is to be expected , after all it is for competition use, for the road - forget it , wont last you 5k

Can't you just get a normal straight cut box rather than a full on dog box?

Bit of a compromise?
