Front Hubs - Series 2
Does anyone know where I can get a pair of these other than Ford?
[For want about £90 each

Has anyone else experianced problems with these wearing out?

you found the problem then
usually worn bearings then alloy the hub to wear off line
its made my brakes warp too
after that then mesure the brakets JUST incase they are off line too

I haven't checked to see if the brackets are true to be honest.....I've not touched the car for a few months!! I just want to get it sorted for the track day season next year!!
I don't think the brackets not being true would cause the discs to warp though....wear the pads uneven/squel etc.. but not warp.

john i had to change my hub knuckle and hub because of massive play when the hub nut came undone while on track.
I managed to get a good 2nd hand hub knuckle and a brand new hub from a local small parts place. Think i payed around £30 for the hub and was made in germany and top quality
John you want me to pop in and see if they have any more of these hubs instock

My hub nuts not coming loose but I think worn hubs may be the cause of my brakes warping all the time.
When you say 'Hub Knuckle' do you mean the stationary piece that the shick absorber/anti-roll bar / track rod end bolts to? And the bearing fits inside? What wears on this piece?
If you could find out about the new hubs it would be appreciated
Was it a motor factors? I assumed nobody but Ford would do this part.
I noticed PF Nick had the same problem as you in this months PF.
would it not be possible to get the hub face machined flat and true?
if you are going to shell out a efw quid at least you can eliminate that as a source of your porblems
have you measured the run out on the disc with a dial test thingy?
it might also show up as bearings on the way to being shagged

Also a local engineering shop said they could re-chrome the hubs and machine them back to the standard spec. Then machine the mounting face which I think is a good way to go.
Hub knuckle yes as you describe it holds everything including the track for the wheelbearings
If thats worn you will find that the wheelbearing track will fit in far too easy. They should be a very tight fit and need a large socket and a hammer to fit them in correctly. If the track is slotting in or even spinning round in the metal knuckle then its worn.
Also the track that fits on the hub itself should be a tight fit and no play at all!
TBH i cant see that it would be that causing your discs to warp, but it could cause virbration under braking causing a feeling like there warped.
I'll try and pop in there and see if they got anymore Hubs instock

andy they would cause the disks to warp as the disk may be running at a angle so feel as if there warped
the part that wears is the actual hub not the carrier as in a bearing kit you will notice that the carrier has a removable bearing surface so when you replace the bearing you replace that surfacem the hub though runs on the bearing and so that gets the wear
remember the brake caliper is on the carrier and the disk on the hub so if the disc runs true on the hub with a DTI gauge then the brakets could possibly be bent as i mentioned before
this is all infomation that ive gathered over the last 2 weeks as ive got brake problems at the moment caused buy a bearing just collapsing with no noise mention at all and its happened 1 year after it failed the MOT last time for wear in the bearings which they fixed
good luck and tell me what you find

Guys
The brakes are deffo warping as I had them skimmed....put them back on and the problem was solved.....then it came back.
I a whole track day with them....=lots of abuse with no problems. But then within 1000 miles of light braking on the road the problem was back
I'll get my clock gauge out one day and take some measurements. Its just toooooooo cold at the moment
Andy,
I have replaced both bearings quite recently and changed the bearing tracks which were a very tight fit.
BUT when I push the hub into the bearing it is a very easy push/pull fit. Should this be a tight as well??

You should be able to feel if theres any play when you fit the bearing onto the hub, there should be none and quite tight
noticed u have deflex bushes john. try changing to powerflex on the front.
I had the deflex collapse on the outer tca on the sapph & it caused similar problems. u don't notice the play until it gets really bad
have fitted deflex bushes to an old series 2 as well & they are crap, never again
