Check to see if your fuel pump is running when you turn the ignition on, it should buzz

When it cuts out, what does the rev counter do, does it drop like a stone,
jump around or look normal ?

fuel pump is good, when it cuts out the rev counter drops at a teady rate (normal) it cuts out on tickover or when driving hot or cold
