Suppose he'll do the same as he always did when he raced and lost - blame the car, the weather, the track...........everything except the fact that he wasn't the best man on the day. There are alot better ex-pro's than him. Funnily enough I was talking to my dad about him the other day and he said he wouldn't trust Mansell with a horse and cart. Quite apt.
And has he still got that poxy 'tache ?????

PON - and when he didn't ? All he did was whinge, blaming everything and everyone else. He couldn't just put his hands up and say he wasn't the best man on the day. It was always someone else's fault. And that whining accent of his that never gets above 2000rpm...........

.............. and the last time you heard a racing driver say that it was all his fault.
Sorry, I wont belittle Mansell - raced at the peak of F1 for me, superb driver, very successful, great British hero.

Top Career IMO. Fair Play. Also started from fuck all with no financial backing and sold all he had to continue with the backing of his Missus. Proper.

If you read Mansells autobiography you may change your opinion of the man. IMO he has every right to be the way he is. He got to the top of motorsport by himself and his own selfbelief, not by being the richest man on the grid. And to be the only person to be F1 and Indy champ at the same time must really mean he's not a very good driver
He's also a thoroughly nice bloke.
When I was younger and raced karts, I had a huge accident on my 14th birthday, and ended up in hospital in a very bad way (two broken arms, broken ribs, cracked vertebrae, internal bleeding etc).
After my father got in touch with him, he signed my racing visor:
To Richard,
Best of luck, keep on karting.
Best Wishes,
Nigel Mansell
That is my most prized possession.

Fantastic read, the first biography i ever read, followed soon by Richard Bransons.
To me he's up there with the best drivers theres ever been.
Some of his races and overtaking moves still stick in my mind today. F1 was far better back then, proper racing. Back to back F1 and indy car says it all.
Got a local artist to do a coloured drawing of his Williams car he won title in 92. Still hanging on wall with pride for a British sporting hero.
Why is it such a british thing to knock anyone who successful?

For me, Mansell makes any race, entertainment, you never know if he'll chuck it at the wall, then come back and win
He is a little OTT at times, but rather that than someone like Kimi that shows no flare or emotion.
Just like to add, that Alex Zanardi is a fookin hero too.

I was at Silverstone in 1987 when he did that dummy move on Piquet - it was fantastic and the crowd went ballistic - one of my lasting memories
Balls out racer - yes he moaned but that was all part of the theatre.
I watched F1 since 1975 and the Hunt days but I dont watch F1 any more as its got no characters left

In my opinion the best ive seen are:
Fangio
Clark
Moss
Senna
Schumacher when on song.
My favourite was Clark simply the best by a margin.
As a British driver Mansall would be behind:
Clark
Moss
Stewart
Unfortunately few of you lads have been around long enough to make a judgement of whos best. GP racing started in 1950 so ive seen most of it.
Today its as bad as it gets & something must be done.
