Have a mark 5 RS2000. Startsup okay although cutting out intermittently and temperature gauge seems to fluctuate! Have cleaned idle control valve, re-soldered dry joints on fuse box, re-charged battery, filled up petrol tank - any ideas?

 

The loom to the injectors and coils falls apart on mark 5 RS2000's, I would check these out ASAP

Thanks for the reply. Previous owner claims to have stripped and shrink wrapped - how well, I don't know?! Is there anything else I can check?

 

The problem is that the insulation cracks up and falls apart leaving bare wires that can touch, shrink wrapping dodgey wires is not really a fix
They would need replacing and would be the first place I would check, loads more info on www.rs2000-16v.com
