996 turbo v my old Sierra
Ok, a friend of mine is going to organize a little encounter with my cossie and a 996 turbo which is owned by his work mate and is apparently tuned to 500bhp.
We know the perfect stretch of de-restricted tarmac for the job and will probably start from a 2nd gear roll from 30mph up to 150.
Do you guys recon i'll win or loose badly?

If it is a genuine 500bhp I'd say you're fucked, porkers always pull out figures FAR better than their power/weight suggests they would. I assume this must be down to the powerband rather than the peak power but I've also read at sometime (I think on G-Force Motorsport's website?) that they have incredibly low transmission losses in comparison to other cars.
To give you an idea of how quick they are BTW, the Factory Power Kitted (450bhp) 996 turbo did 0-100 in 8.8secs & 196mph in Autocar IIRC? So with 500bhp it must be in the mid-low 8secs to 100 & like Deano says, they really come into their own above 100.
Oh & also they are apparently virtually indestructable & will withstand countless full bore launches
But good luck & be sure to let us know how you get on

Hi
At totb1 a Porsche gt2 modied to about 500bhp ran the same 500 metre time as mine within .01 & yep he was quicker. In the 1.25miles he ran 183 my best is 179.6, so with the same Power the Porker is faster.
Cheers Rod

You would think that if it does genuinly have 500bhp and you only have 400 in a 4x4 cos your gona get a beating.
