Default FAO ALL: New picture resizer. PLEASE test & comment

Ok,
The last resizer we had caused problems with a few browsers and also slowed the load down and technically loaded the page twice so we removed it and Pet worked on a new one.

Now, the pictures will all load into a 640x480 thumbnail.
When you move the mouse over the thumbnail it will jump up to the size it was originally uploaded at.

Try it here:
https://passionford.com/forum/viewto...r=asc&start=40

Remember, you will have to get into the habit of keeping the mouse to the left or right of picture topics if we keep this mod so the pics scroll by undisturbed on your screen.

I like it LOTS. You may not.... comments welcome.

Dont forget, the resizers are ONLY needed for people who dont bother to load em up the correct size anyway. I reccomend 640x480 max.

The size of the pics is now good but wouldn't it be easyer to have it so you click the image instead of moving your mouse over it to get it to go large as it where?

One word: Brilliant

What would happen if the picture was physically larger than your screen though, would you be able to scroll around to see it in full ?

Agree with what you said though stu, as soon as image resizing was available, every uploaded pictures was loadsamegabytes big, can't be good for 56k users.

PS: With photobucket you can get thumbnails on the post, with a link to the full size one, imo that's the best option, thumbnails are big enough to see if you want to load the full size picture or not.

e.g. Click for full size

Yes, using your arrow keys.
The ULTIMATE solution is to educate users to resize their pics, not only dimensionally but physically too, but after years of trying i have accepted its never going to happen

Personally I don't like it.

I find it quite offputting when scrolling down the screen, and the page keeps jumping about from size to size.

The old system was far superior, as it kept pictures to a slightly smaller size, but obviously I can appreciate the problems it caused.

Not a fan

Gotcha, and I know what you mean... until we had resizing, all pictures were nice and trim, then suddenly whoaaaaa, posts take ages to load with full size pictures

Very good feature! IMO it would be perfect if it changed size on clicking it like the old one.

Alternatively....... would it easier to just put a limit on the number of letters per line so that even if people did put massive photos on you could still read all the text with no problems

One thing we could change, is to simply stop it resizing back to normal on mouseover so ALL it does is resize everyones pics to 640x480.

Any thoughts?

it is a very cool feature , but is it necessary? i'm all for just automatically resizing all pictures, and then if folk want to post a large full size pic, post up a link.

Have to agree that thumbnail size pics would be better. Would it be possible to have pics as attachments and say a px or kb limit and you have to physically click on them rather than mouseover?

I find it a bit too much with pics and sigs, having only a laptop at the mo. It's only possible sometimes to view one reply at a time on the screen.

Will the facility to turn off sigs be coming back Stu?

i think it works very very well exactly how it is now, would be interesting to see how more people with slower connections are getting on with it though,
