So you're saying a mk5 glass will fit on a mk4 mechanism - yes?

Correct the glass, and metal bit run the glass is the same, even has the same part number on it (tink it the part number neway), the sunroof came of a early j-reg xr3i mk5!

screws are a pain I'd admit, also keeping the mech in one piece cos the springs all get caught up and all twisted eventually meaning its fooked lol

I used 3 complete sunroofs to make one

Hmm, I wont be changing mine, but at the same time my roof looks very clean, and no rust flakes (unlike my old S2 ) I dont think the previous owner of my S2 had the sunroof open much

Not sure I understand this....the part which causes all the rusty flakes everytime you open it isn't the sunroff assembly. Its the internal area of the roof skin rusting

John, true
But the actual sunroof frame that holds the glass also rots to fook, causing holes in the 4 corners of it

Take a look

Yes....but in relation to what comes out of the roof its trivial!!

What I did on an old car is take the sunroof out.....get something long to scrape all the loose rust off.....then got the hoover in there to remove all the flakes.....then filled it with waxoil.....Problemo sorted

I got a mint mk4 sunroof from a scrappy last weekend, there were about 8 more mk4s and over 10 mk5s there which looked like they had good sunroofs !
