Default Rip DVD to AVI/MPEG????

OK, so I can rip DVD's to my HDD using DVDShrink, compress em so I can burn to a DVD-R, but how do I rip them to an AVi or MPEG? For example, I downloaded a copy of The Butterfly Effect as an AVI and it was the whole film, from opening credits to end of the closing credits, as one "track" that I can watch on my PC.

Any idea's how I do this?

I have WinAVI converter thingy but it won't seem to let me convert DVD type files into AVI's (even tho I can do it the other way around - AVI to DVD)

I used a program called DVD Santa to convert avi to dvd, but it was a trial and had a banner in the corner saying "buy dvd santa now for $29.99"

I have found another peice of software but I'm at Tony Turbo's house so can't remember what it's called

Also.. another (and better IMHO) program to convert from avi/mpg/etc... to DVD is SVCD2DVD www.svcd2dvd.com

It's about $10 or something..but very very worth it... great customer/technical support... Best $10 i've spent!

..... and the author of svcd2dvd has made a free program called vob2mpg (check the svcd2dvd forums for it)..

if you have a "home made" dvd..with a few films on..it will put each film to a seperate mpg program.. well worth checking out...

Dave/Dan - I'm sorted for converting avi/mpeg/wmv/etc to DVD - it's the other way around. When I rip a DVD to my HDD I get an AUDIO_TS folder (always empty for some reason) and a VIDEO_TS folder which has a bunch of VTS and VOB files in it. I wanna take the film I just ripped and turn it into an AVI or MPEG (at around 700mb-1gb filesize) so that I can play back in Windows Media Player...

Last question. Lets say I converted a bunch of small films (how did you know I meant porn ) to DVD. Each one makes an Audio and Video TS folder. How do I burn these to a DVD and have a title so that I can choose which "film" I wanna watch?

When I do an SVCD I can do this, but I can't see a way of doing it with a DVD....

You need to create each film as a chapter. I use Cucusoft Video Converter to put avi clips on to dvd.

As for converting dvd to an avi, not the foggiest m8, I really am struggling with this. I think you have to "backup" the dvd, then re-edit it or author it, remove all the menu's, chapter segments, subtitles and special features, and basically just have the film. I spent about an hour talking to Gizmo about it and he baffled the fuck out of me

I know how to rip just the main film with no extra features or anything (can do that with DVDShrink) and it also has a "re-author" bit aswell but I have not used it.....

I am still confused about putting more than one film on a DVD disc tho...

ok...the best way..would be using the vob2mpg program I suggested earlier...

That will make each film into a seperate .mpg file.

If you want to put more than one film on a DVD..you need a program that can author DVD's.. i.e. dvd santa won't work as it doesn't support menu's...however..you can download a trial of svcd2dvd...and you would be able to make a film..with menu's and chapters etc..... however I think the demo only allows up to a 2gb dvd..

With my copy..i can put 3/4 CAM's on a DVD (or 2xTS, 1xTS + 1xTC etc...)... or I made a DVD of music video's with different genre's..rock, hiphop etc.... and put that in a menu..

I know i'm big'ing up svcd2dvd..but it is a really good program..at the moment it only allows a single menu... however.. soon he's incorporating submenu's etc... which will be even more useful for people who want to burn on to DL dvd's..giving more space etc...

If you want a DVD iso (or burned image) of what it can do...drop me a PM and we'll sort something out... or if you need any help usin it..drop me a line...but I can't recommend the software enough...as it's a great program..
