Default My S2 Rebuild and Restoration... New Engine Build

Since I was a wee boy I have wanted an Rs Turbo for some strange reason… Four months ago I decided it was time to own one so I looked all over the internet joined this site and when out and brought one. The car I brought cost me a lot of money as it was a completely original S2 1988 with 40k on the clock I was thinking to my self as I joined the A14 on the way back form J28 what a good car I had brought when I herd the lovely sound of an alternator belt flying off under my bonnet (o joy!!!) So I continued down the A14 until my battery when completely flat then called for a low loader to pick me up and take me home…

This is where it all started!!!!

I was on my way home in the low loader and I called my best mate / grease monkey (Minty off Eastender)(Lewis) to get his arse down Halfords and get me a new belt we put it on and started her back up. I drove the RS round for a about 170 miles before my brain had a seizure and I decided to strip it down to a bear shell and rebuild it (Nuts!!!)

I will try and put some picture on this afternoon if I get time

Looks like a lovely example, very much how I got mine (had done 50K tho ) Have you stripped any more yet or is that it? hopefully you wont find too much of the car cancer Anyway, what are your reasons for stripping this minty looking original S2?

The engine is half out and will be having a full rebuild with a few adjustments to make it a bit more fun...

The engine spec is gonna be:

Piper cams
K&N Panel filter
Magnex Exhaust
Chip
-31 act
New I/C
New Rad
New Started motor
New Alternator
New Hoses
Might go for a stage one or two turbo as well

Cool mate, That underside don't look too bad at all, only mostly surface corrosion on the suspension parts etc What's the other bit tho, it looks like a weird angle of the rear arch? If so, i've seen a hell of a lot worse mate! You'll have to have a look at my S2 underside tidyup thread when you get a chance

Look forward to seeing the "sexual chocolate" pics later

Erm, well I've not had any problems yet, I've got ST170's up front and ABS removed, and it stops very well and straight even in "taking the piss" braking situations Won't do much tho the rears, unless you have a bias on them I guess and adjust them but then it'll lock up and spin out! How'd you get on fitting them with the bolt clearance etc?

The blots hit the back of hub so I called zoo up and he told me to shave a bit of the bolts with an angel grinder and they seem fine. then I just put a bit of lock tight on the bots and put them in... U? U gave me the name x factor for the front st170 brakes but I could nt find him on ere do u have his number or anything??

I removed all the old underseal and rust then coated it with 4 coats of primer, 4 coast of white and I am going for 4 coats of stone guard as well.

Adam thanks for your constructive comments and your help with the links…

I am a bit worried about the rear disk conversion them bolts are gonna play on mind…

For some crazy reason I am taking the car back a part tonight and any part that can be powered coated is going off to central blast cleaning in the morning (fooking Mad)

Just spoke to a very nice chap there who said he would do the lot for 250quid.

Default Update

Quick Update:

All this week I have been taking apart the engine bay which I finally got done last night.

My friend Minty has been removing all the chassis components and getting them ready to send to central blast cleaning which are gonna look sexual!!!

I’ve booked the shell in for it re-spray on 31 Oct so in the next few weeks there gonna be some really interesting photo posted.

I will post some pics of central blast work when it returns.

Thanks,

Jim.

*****Up Date******

I decided to strip the car down again and give it a few more layer of protection and it is look so nice when I look back at the pics when I brought the car I cannot believe how much I have done and how fair the car has come along…

I when up to central blasting in Banbury with all my wish arms and roll bar and the work they have done is outstanding I recommend them to anyone + there pricing is spot on.

Any positive input would be nice
