Went down to Crail Raceway today (spectating only) and had a pretty good day
Left there and headed back up the road. Noticed that when i was giving the car a boot up it was filling the road with smoke and it was still there on overrun. Put it down to the turbo as off of boost it was ok. No probs i thought, i'll just get my hybrid earlier than planned
Took it pretty easy after that but was sitting around 75 / 80 (off boost) when i said to my brother £uck sake look at my oil pressure
just with that on came the oil light. It was in with the clutch and off with the ignition and coast into the nearest layby. Bailed out and lifted the bonnet, Oil everywhere and no oil cap. Stuck some oil in that i had in the boot and rammed a cloth into the rocker cover but i think the dammage is done
nice metal to metal rattle now. looks like i havent done it any favours by running it dry at that speed.
Now heres what happened.
Checked all the levels this morning before we left. I always crack the oil filler cap seal by slackening it by about 3/4 of a turn, just to aid the oil draining into the sump (force of habit) and leave it for a while before i check the level.
I dipped the oil and it was fine but must have forgot to tighten the cap back up
So there we go, my mistake and a £ucking costly one at that

Will get it pulled apart in the next few weeks and inspect the damage.

Hope it's not too bad, but as you say i expect the damage is done. Pretty crap that you weren't giving it stick when it died though as atleast you'd have something to blame it on.
Good luck anyway!
