Default Bugger, spun a shell

That'll be the custard off the road for a while then!

Should have rebuilt the engine when i had it out last time, but it seemed to run so sweetly i thought i would get away with it for a while yet, so we never touched the bottom end, but obviously i was wong with that choice

Oh well, that'll give me something interesting to do over winter then

LOL

Im sure there is room for plenty of jokes about it, but cant think of any right now, probably not in the right frame of mind.

The downside to the timing is that ive actually got a lot on my plate at the moment anyway as i have two other cars i have to do first before i can even look at the cossie, as ive been neglecting them too long at its expense and cant continue to do so as they are more important.

Will be a good excuse for a better spec next time though, so will certainly be qiucker than ever before once i eventually can spend the time to sort it.

There was a top end rattle (obviously due to oil pressure loss when the shell spun i guess), i limped it home with that, on the way (only about 2 miles) it developed a knock so i decided it was time to pull it apart.

Its spun a big end, havent had a chance to look at the mains yet as it was outside and started pissing it down before i got a chance to pull those off.

Crank is visibly scored though, so not going to make any difference if its spun a main or not now as if im rebuilding it then i will line bore it anyway so couldnt care less if the mains have spun too.

Shame, have been really enjoying driving it lately as well

Doesnt look like there is any reason for the failure other than just using an old engine hard, all looks worn out rather than any dramatic reason for the failure.

Thanks for the offer alex, but the way i see it, building engines is fun, and if im spending the money on the bits i want to have the fun of building it myself.

Otherwise it would be like me spending all night chatting some bird up and buying her drinks and then getting you to shag her at the end of the evening instead of doing it myself.

(awaits jokes from alex about the fact that in both cases it would mean at least the job got done properly, with the correct tools, lol)

I would do the normal thing at this point and start going "bloody cossies" or "i should have gone jap" or something like that, but truth is:

Old worn bottom end + lots of boost + drive like i stole it = obvious result.

Feel free to pop round and see it any time you want, and bring an engine crane with you

Im not too fussed about having it on the road at the moment as probably wouldnt have driven it much through winter anyway, so will probably aim to get it back on the road about april/may time.
