Default VERY HARD DECISION - My Cossie. HELP ??

I'm stuck with what to do about my saff cossie. I have blown the engine up on it and it is sitting on my drive in a sorry state. The back arches have started to rust this car was mint not so long back.

anyway. since I have blown the engine up I have bought a T4 and got together about 6 grand to use to rebuild the engine.

problem is, once thats done, gearbox and diffs are gona need doing (to cope with the power), the brakes are standard and there is a fair few other things I need to buy fot it to make it how I want it.

Now, there are no saffs on this planet I prefer to mine. dont ask me why. think it must be love

what should I do??

- Get the engine rebuilt and drive it about on low boost and over time buy the rest of the parts I need - at least I have it back on the road then

- Sell all my bits and break the car, put money into a bank and start saving for an already modified escort cossie

-sell all my bits and the car and buy another saff, which is a higher spec

- get the engine built and convert it to rwd so I dont have to worry so much about transmission as much

-sell my ass to Mike R many times over so I can instantly afford everything I want for the saff

?????????????????????????????????????????????????? ????????

You might have to clear that one with Ima first

I dunno about these posts. No matter what people 'advise' me, I never listen (much to my dad's frustration). It depends on how much you love your car. I got mine back on Friday after a LONG time away. My bloke washed, polished and hoovered it and the grin on my face was WIDE. Only a week before I was contemplating selling. Only you know what you'd prefer.

I know how u feel, come close to selling my car so many times but i just can't do it,i know there are loads about but another one just wouldn't be the same, you could just go for stage 3 instead, but as you have said it's not just the engine you have to spend the cash on if u want more power, i say keep it!

your probably right cola, I'm a bit like that

just can't do it,i know there are loads about but another one just wouldn't be the same
exactly how I feel about my saff

I would usually pick an escort cossie over a saff but I honestly couldnt pick between my saff and an awesome looking escort cossie, although the lure is very strong, not that I could aford one right now anyway

Personally i'd go for the Escort cos, but breaking a car is a LOT of work!! And so many people do it they don't seem to fetch as much as some people would like these days! (Supply always meets demand!)

cheers for the input people.

Certainly know what you mean about regretting it. Especially as if I were to put the money away for an escort cossie I would prob take me a year to save up the rest so would be without a fast car for a while

Why o why did I have to go and blow the poor thing up could still be driving it about now

its fuckin shit isnt it! Mine seems to be getting worse and worse by the day

will be good to have it back even if you have to be a bit careful, or arrange a special deal for diffs with the local rs breaker

RAN - My diff never went on my saph, and as far as I know it was standard!!! You shouldn't have any trouble with the diff going on the road and on road tyres (with std rear beam etc), it will just light them up before diff breaking torque!!! I had 235 wide Yokos and never had a problem, justlit them up in 1st 2nd and 3rd

Phil - cheers for that.

I have 215s on the rears so its gonna spin like a bitch, but as long as the diff or gearbox dont break i will be happy.

I think you'll find it is all down to the owner's not listening actually Smit . When there is a problem and they ask what to do (this is BOTH of them ) and get told, "Get it sorted before you abuse it any more, or it WILL melt!" - what do they do? Continue to rag the shit out of it and then bleat about shitty Cossie reliability when it blows up .

Dom,
If you want my HONEST advice, repair it NOW (before it get's worse, as cars don't like standing idle), but get it done properly and running four greys with T4. It will actually be MORE reliable than the T3/4 conversion and you "may" get away without transmission mods IF you don't go launching it. This is because the boost doesn't come in aggressively low down and gives the transmission an easier time. Harvey does a fantastic T4 conversion (425bhp) ideal for your car.

I say break it, and scrap the car.

I only say that becuase both you and Pete never pay any attention to anything anyone says, which means you'll probably rebuild it

Do as Mike says................

Dom, first thing remove the foooooookin fuel pump....... its mine!!!! lol

Dont worry about the rear arches they are about a tenner each and I Know someone a little handy with a welder and a spray gun.

As for the rest Mike is sounding good, 425bhp thats plenty!!

Do it!!!!!

ok, cheers for the advice guys.

Rossco, , you show me some progress in your engine build and I'll show you my fuel pump and whos this person you know who is handy with a spray gun???? are they free to spray the cossie up?? otherwise I'll have to use you

Mike Rainbird, FPMSL It has had 2 complete tossers as owners but least I clean the thing, Pete always waited until it was so bad someone else did it because they couldnt stand to see it like that

I have asked Martin Hadland to quote me for a rebuild already Mike May contact Harvey soon as Martin prob doesnt need any more work with Porkie and his open cheque book about Just hearing all those stories about spadges/Dans/dingys engines has put me off Harvey a bit

RichardPON, so what do you think I should do with it Rich? I wasnt listening

cozzybrom, I know what your saying mate, thats the flip side of the argument definitely. Only thing is, It would have to be a very special saff for me to change mine, would like an escort, but couldnt afford one for shit ................hmm, 3dr, now thats a thought

Smit, I know its had 45 grand spent but I have found the problem. the TPS and I have one on watch on ebay, 10 quid .....Ł45,010...problem solved

how can you talk about change, you have owned your saff since I was a twinkle in my mothers eye

Dom,
As I said, you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink . An engine of that spec (IMHO) HAS to be live mapped. Anyone who says otherwise is a deluded idiot . I'll leave you to carry on with your mistakes then....

i don't think u have a leg to stand slating me boyo

i'm tellin get the fuck rid of it before it swallows some more hard earned money like it did with Pete

Smit,
You listen - Dom / Pete don't - that's the difference . You can't blame a car for being "unlucky" when it is other people's inability to take advice .

but come on. "cursed" thats horse. The fact that its a 2wd engine I think is a problem, also the wiring being all over the fooken place.

might tell harvey to Bin everything out of the engine bay and start again

Found a pic of Mikes inspiration......

Listen very carefully, I shall say this only once.....You MUST get your car BOTH live mapped and dyno'd. Failure to do so WILL result in engine failure
