Got pulled over my traffic coppers on bikes on way to work today. fine i thought, the car just went through an MOT she fine.
was all nice and polite with the police, took the bonnet off (its on pins) told them its my pride and joy etc... regularly serviced, just had MOT, nice track day car etc...

Then they say iam giving you 3 points and fine for a bald tyre, which he had to measure 3 times to be sure. He explained legally i should have 3/4 of the tyre above 1.6mm tread. Mine was 2.2mm on the inside edge, and outside edge, but 1.4mm in the middle.

Then he goes i should be giving you 3 points as your brake fluid should be green, its grey, hasnt been changed in ages. Now i know my RS lumps quite well but know NOTHING about brakes etc... So i said not being funny how the hell am i supposed to know what colour it is? I pay a garage to look after that side of things. He replied the law says its your responsibiliy but he would let me off this time but if he saw it again i would get points! TOSSER!

By then i was fuming, the tyre was admittidely bald but talk about splitting hairs!

result? £60 fine, my 1st 3 points and a firm belief the traffic police are knob heads.

 

i would of asked him to take a closer look at the fuild and flicked some in his eye

Take the tyre to a tyre fitter and ask if its legal, if it is get writtten proof and appeal. Plod should have taken numbers off the tyre to identify it.

His knowledge seems suspect if he thinks brake fluid is a points issue.

But if he's on a bike he's probably already done at least 3 years in a traffic car.

Tyre law is 1.6 over 3/4 width for the whole of the circumference, no tread required on the remainder.

 

I've never seen green fluid either, they can't do u over the colour anyway only the moisture content but i don't think this comes into effect for a while yet

u should have protested the law states atleast 1.6mm tread across 3/4 of the tyre so aslong as 1/4 of the tyre has 1.6mm tread u should be ok get a ruler if since some of the tread on the outside never wears anyway so that half of your 1/4 needed surly u could have found a bit more of good tread. Fucking prick's.

my SRF has a light purple tinge to it, fook wit - i'd loved to have made an issue of it and get them the point it out in the book that says the colour of th brake fluid should be x colour FFS, you dont even need brake fluid, as long as the cars breaks work it doesnt matter how they work, legally.
