Default Aeroquip / Hose Connections / Plumming experts etc.....

Can anyone confirm for me that a 20mm (3/4inch) external diameter boss is 1/2inch BSP?

Cheers,
Dan

Ok but.....

Standard 3/4inch is not the same as 3/4inch BSP as it has a different scale. I've been told its 1/2inch BSP but need confirmation.

Dan can you explain what you are trying to do....

I think you're getting confused with external thread diameter and internal bore size...

I've got an oil cooler, but there is no indication as to what the boss/connection type is apart from a "6" etched into each boss.

The diameter of the boss (excluding the thread) is 19/20mm (including the thread 21/22mm) which i have been told is near enough bang on 1/2inch BSP. The connections are corvexed if that helps.

Dan, its unusual for a Mocal Cooler not to have a label on it stating the size of the cooler and its connections.

Here is a 19 Row Cooler that I currently have in front of me.......

Whats yours like compared to this??

BSP is measured from the bore of the pipe, not the OD of the thread!!!!

They are Concave Connections on the picture above, if yours are Convex, I would say you have -8 or -10 Connections.

Looks identical Christian. (mine is concave too)

Can you measure the external diameter (excluding the thread) for me?

It may be then that the threads are a std Dash -6 jic, (jic is a convex 37 degree dome ) , the outside of a dash 6 fitting is roughly 20mm so that could be it . As for the thread i think its 9/16 unf x6 but you wont need that . Its probably a bit small for an engine oil cooler if it is dash 6 , its more usual to be an 8 or 10 size.
