The last few nights ive been using PF in the evenings and noticed it has become very slow (Nobodys mentioned it to me or pet though
)
So Pet sat up last night until the early hours and has discovered that when users access topics created before the big server problem we had early last year, it creates a massive overhead. Now... the problem is, its a lot more time consuming to find the cause of teh problem that makes these old posts stress out the server than it is to simply DELETE ALL TOPICS BEFORE MAY 2004 And thus we are looking at losing around 500pages of general Discussion alone...
This would leave It with only 1300 or so pages of history sadly...
A few other forums have been pruned today allready so you may well feel the impact allready.
So, we have decided that is the way to go as lets face it, these topics are almost 18months old and of no immidiate use, so it will be done hopefully some time today, so if any of you think theres any info stored on this server that you would like to retain, you had best get access to it and save it all as soon as possible.
THIS INCLUDES PM's YOU WILL LOSE THEM ALL TODAY
I have sent a mass mail directing everyone to this topic so no one can complain that they lost their info or PM's, and for those of you who dont get this message in time, we can only appologise for any inconvenience caused.
Any Comments?

OK how about moving all these old topics to a seperate database?
Maybe shove it on another server or something and call it passionfordarchive.com ?
that was the info is still there if peeps need it for info purposes. would be a shame to lose it all.

You might want to explain to people who only read in between lines and haven't quite seen this part of your message how to save the threads they are interested in.... plain or froggy english will do.....
just to clarify : only posts with NO reply since the 1st of May 2004 will be deleted. No other one will be !
So no panic, please
This only concerns the last 500 pages of Gen Dis forum, no other !
This is not a size prob, this is an index prob. Those old posts are not indexed correctly in the DB, and they cause the site to slowdown each time someone visits one, or the lasts pages of Gen Dis.

Do what you've got to do I suppose
However, even though my resto thread is post-May 2004, it'd be a REAL shame to lose the others, like Tony's for example. That thread is possibly the best one on PassionFord, so it needs to be saved in some sort of format, or copied and reposted? Same must surely apply for the techincal discussion essay threads?
Have we got a time when this deletion will occur?
