Ring Record vid 6:55 - Radical SR8 - PROPERLY GOING MAN!!!!!
Bloody Hell
Don't know if this has been posted before, but this vid clip is some of the most full on driving I have ever seen. Its a new Radical SR8 doing the Ring in 6 mins 55 secs, and that is a full lap, none of this gate to gantry crap!!
The thing is, the gearing seems far from ideal. The gears seem to far spaced, I reckon it could be done quicker with a smaller final drive ratio.

Just watched it and the gears seem perfectly matched to me
. If the final drive was any shorter, he would be bouncing off the limiter down the main straight / Flugplatz
. Absolutely amazing car, shame about the price tag

.Just my observation.
The thing that got me the most, was how committed he is into the bloody corners. The guy is obviously very talented AND a complete loon!!!

Sean,
That section you first mention is a very steep hill and combined with the down-force of the car, is why it takes ages to pull 5th. If you watch the shiftlights, he gets to the end of 5th, thinks about changing to 6th, but then realises that it would bog due to the gradient, as well as the fact that in a few hundred metres he will have to change back down, so he decides to hold 5th (good call, as it doesn't accelerate any further). On the main straight, again it is uphill towards the end of the straight before going into a steep down hill section, so he holds 5th until just before he crests the rise
. If you had actually driven the 'Ring, you would know this
. The gradients are incredible and you get no appreciation of them without a rear view camera.

Mike,
the cars over geared. Agreed with Sean entirely. He doesn't top out his top gear at any point. When he shifts into top is basically goes no where. The real hero move is flat out of Pflantzgarten and the back end coming out
Legend!
I put the lap in a separate window vs Derek Bells 956 porsche lap. The radical does really well to be on the same page. However on the straights the porsche is needless to say...gone

Steve,
He gets to almost max revs in top down the main straight so STFU
. Any shorter and he would be hitting the limiter here and that would slow the car down considerably for the overall lap.
You're not talking about a road car, you're talking a full aero-packed track car, the down force / drag at these speeds is MEGA, hence why the accleration slows down in the higher gears. If he adjusts the wing attack, it would be on the limiter in 6th down the back straight, but the lap would probably have ended after the first high speed corner
.
Perhaps the 6th gear could have been closer to have shaved 1-2s off the lap
, but NOT the final drive
.
I always "used" to think you knew stuff
.
PS. Wait until the new 425bhp engine is finished (that would have only been the 375bhp one).

Anyway, i just watched again a couple of times and its not topped out in top gear so top gear could be slightly lower. I'm not to sure why u would say otherwise...
ps stfu mike....
u can hardly string a lap of your kitchen table together... infact even your mum tells you off fo drifting up your fathers works driveway cos she knows your out of your depth...

.Obviously you can't read, as I already said that
Look here you dimwitted hairdresser.
I said I felt it was over geared. I still feel that. So YOU STFU!
I know the nurburgring. I reckon it didnt need as tall a 6th gear. If you can reduce 6th gear then great, if he can reduce all the gearing then ever better to keep it shorter sharper and with less of a rev drop between gears

RW,
It is PEREFCTLY geared apart from 6th, and when the new engine is signed off with the extra 50bhp, it will be perfectly geared full stop, so STFU and go and buy a fast car and come and talk to me when you have done a sub 8 minute lap, as until then you are beneath me

RAINBIRD,
Interesting how you feel like the authority on this considering its a fast car and driver we are talking about. Something you have clearly demonstrated you neither have nor are.
when i have a car with anything more than 250 bhp... i'll pass you like last time...

lol,
i recall your first trip you never even got below 10 minutes....
10 minutes?... by then i was back from cooling down the car and ready for another lap... what was this legend lap time u pulled then?

Steve,
Obviously you never got to see the 9 minute lap that the guy with the Scooby STi RA videod then (you know the one whose misses you fancied
) ? Given what happened on our first time out and the weather, I'm not surprised I didn't do any better than this
.
However, my second time out was significantly better, but still not as good as your second time out - but then I wasn't driving a car that almost drives itself with road tyres, let alone D01Js
.
I couldn't possibly divulge this information to someone not yet in the same "cast"
