Isn't there a 18BHP difference between the two in favor of the RS2000? So won't the RS2000 have a higher topspeed

If they're both standard the RS2k would win. Standard RST is about as fast as paint drying

Exhaust on its own will do little more than fook all. What have you done to get 175bhp?

And mentioning mods in the original question would have been helpful

If you have a genuine 175bhp and not a pub BS 175bhp you will win.

the above statement roughly translates into english as follows

" I have a friend who owns some car. he is insisting that it is much faster than the car i currently own. However, he refuses point blank to race me 0-60, but keeps quoting pub bullshit bhp figures.

I would like to know who has the faster car."

Would like to see a RS2k whoop a RST.

Lets say that your RS2k is making 175bhp (TBH i would be supprised unless its had major engine work done, but we will say it is) then its about the same as my Focus ST170 now i know that my ST170 will just about keep up with a RST running 10psi.

The focus has the advantage of a 7200rpm rev limit, close ratio 6 speed box and variable valve timing and duel stage inlet all of which im guessing you dont have in your RS2k and the RST defo dont have, so your behind before you even start.

Also the ST170 also gives away about a good 30lbft ( so your RS2k will also be giving away min of 30lbft to the RS Turbo so if your mates RST is running a solid 9+psi on std engine then i think your going to struggle

175bhp?

Where did you find that? You'd need a bit of work doing to get 175bhp.

A good RST would hump the RS2K. Yours would probably outcorner a standard RST though.

WELL...

speaking as a rs2k owner...

a std rst is dog dirt slow... and a std rs2k will kick it.

a rs2k will also kick your st170... and i've done it many many time.

how many good standard RS turbos exsist there either modded to hell or half flapping wastegates doing 1psi

Plus the RS2K handles way better

Standard v Standard Im with Alex RS2K would win but obviously RS turbos r easyer to get power out of I cant Imagine an ST170 would kill a RS2K as the ST170 must be heavy but again the Focus handles better

The RST would win.

Most of it would have rotted away by now so it'll be light as fook

RST handling is a bit toss at std, but once uve sorted the geometry it damn good, independant suspension all round, think the 2k is still on beam?

An RST with just a dump valve and big exhaust would never beat a 2K. Sound like a max power feature but go like Paula Radcliff at the olympics. When I had a standard RST it was like walking to work without my legs moving

It's fundamentally inferior method of suspension design - unless it's an offroader. Agree most RST's are shit though.

all you would need for a rst to beat a 2K is a exhaust, air filter and chip running 14-15psi, and you would destroy even a tuned Rs2000

Yes! Mk3/4 escort has fully independant suspension all round, it was way ahead of its time. The problem is the lowered cars, even out of the factory have geomerty issues. They'll always suffer from a hash ride due to short travel.

On more than one occasion I wasted a modded RST let alone a standard one in my old 2k, it's funny how many people underestimate the RS2000...

As for handling, the RS2k is far far supperior to a Focus, I have driven both and wouldn't give a focus a second look over my old 2k...

hmmm its a VERY crude system...

the camber and track change on roll is hardly ahead of its time...

Dont get caught up in Independant has to be best lol

The 1959 mini had fully independant suspension after all LOL

The rst would beat the rs2k easily. I had an total satandard escort n could beat a rs2k over the quarter mile all day long.

if they're both original, then a RS2k is faster then a RST (0-60 an also on top speed)

I've tested this many times

If you've got a chipped RST Vs. a Chipped RS2k then a RST will win

I had a boggo RS2K, mk5, and it was an awsome car , I only bought it for a runabout as I got it silly cheap (try 1k with 12months mot and 6 months tax ), but I was absolutly amazed how good it was, the book figures don't do it justice as you can't quite hit 60 in second gear, so it looks slow, but through the gears it was really quick and for a 16V very torquey. The handling was sublime, and it turns in sooooo quickly, and holds a really tight line no matter how brutal you are with it, and its quiet, got power steering, and a nice ride and recaros. The only 2 probs are they have wank brakes and they rot at the filler cap like a fiat in a salt store Personally I would take one over a orrible RST any day, and yes I have had an immaculate S1 turbo with 190+bhp, but it just can't match the all round package of the RS2K

anyone remember he max power RS2000??? horrible colour but it had a 250-300BHP mountune rally engine on throttle bodys now THAT would be a weapon
