Default RST question #2533 : Starter motor

yep its starting to make a gay sound when i start it, so I dont think it will last all that much longer.

Which one do I go for as a direct replacement?

And where from?

Christian?

If u haven't got a lot of money, go for a small one off a 1.1 or 1.3 fiesta or something - can get em exchange for about 35 quid.

As the RST is low compression, its easy to turn. Becasue the motor is smaller, its much less effected by heat. Mine has never failed or hesitated, where as the larger type did.

If u want to spend 100 quid or so, goto Ford. It's a totally different design of starter they use now, they spin the engine v quickly, and sound really nice too.

Rick.

I have a Bosch one. Its smaller and more powerful that the Standard one. I can't remember how much, but under a ton. They expect exchange though.

It has a different sound when you turn the car over as it has Gear Reduction.

I got one from Ford. It's more compact and a different design to the big old chunky Bosch starter. so it's not as close to the exhaust.

Was about Ł80 exchange but I get trade discount.
