Default side exit exhaust

a little while ago i bought a perform exh' but was previously hooked on the idea of a side exit jobbie. the reason i aint got one now is cos lots of people told me its not legal to blow the exhaust fumes into pedestrians and traffic. (hence the tailpipe).
is this true?
i cant help thinkin im gonna be kickin myself as ive seen a few cars around now with such types of exhaust, even comin outa the bumper!
go on, make me kick myself...........

I saw a nice S1 with one back in 1994. Besides from being a bit different there's less back pressure due to being shorter, less weight too but how you package a silencer in there is anyones guess.

sod the silencer man, if the tubes the right size the airflow will be good for the engine. the noise dont matter in my ears. i mean eyes

Mine has a side exit coming from passenger side (wait till i blow a turbo with pedestrians on the path) , ive been told that with a turbo the quicker you get the gasses out but N/A is a diferent kettle of fish

With a turbo, minimal back pressure is good. Need a bit or it'll eat the oil seals on the turbo.

N/A will need more back pressure or you'll lose power.

My silencer is very small, and is part of the tailpipe. And is you say now, that noise doesn't matter, you won't later

Mine is now very much off the road due to a small ban But when I get back on the road I'm buying a very quiet honda or something, cos a loud ford just ain't cutting it

Had a stainless side exit ages ago from a R5 turbo, would have fitted almost straight on. Binned it tho as couldn't be bother with the hassle it would have caused

I really want to go side exit on my XR turbo soon, i heard side exists are only legal when the originally the car had one e.g Cobra/Caterham etc... If it didnt leave the factory like that then its not allowed. Could be wrong though

Any other pics of your car Puddy ? its fooking gorgeous! I remember back in the day that being on the cover of Street Machine when i used to read it.
