Default Someone give me some proof -- Bikes vs Cars ................

Ive got a knob @ work thinking bikes are the be all and end all of acceleration / top speed.

I myself know bikes are very fast, and even the top cosworths will struggle to keep up with the top bikes.

BUT there HAS to be some proof, IE Ive seen the vid of the saff vs the R1.

Anyone got any specs?

Rods vs R1 / Fireblade / Fookin whatever else this knob will say

Arent cars better round track than bikes due to braking and tyre surface area or summat?

HELP ME OUT HERE!!!!!!

if were talking motogp and F1

In 2004, Mr V Rossi lapped the Sepang circuit in qualifying for the Malaysian Grand Prix in the very quick time of 2:01 (dry), thats 2 mins and 1 sec. In the same year a Mr M Schumacher lapped the same circuit in the death defying time of 1 minute and 33seconds. This is a full 75% of the time a motorcycle takes. Or put another way; a F1 car can do 4 laps in the time a MotoGP cycles can do only 3.

So, that ends that.

As for road cars and bikes, havnt a clue

bikes are fast off the line and upto a certain speed but after around 130mph cars start to gain on them and catch up

dont even bother mate its a waste of time does not matter how long you argue about it all they will say in the end is what they always do

''but you can by a gsxr1000 for 8 grand brand new how much does it cost to make a car as fast''

at the end of the day there are cars that will keep up with bikes, all the 600'si have raced i have beaten and even some 1000's my times 60-100 are very close but they are still very very fast machines, but they do have one massive down fall offer to race him, leave the coosie in the garage use a mondeo diesel just make sure its pissing down on some twistys its all horses for courses.

Very true - Out on the road you need to be either very brave or very stupid to stay ahead of a well driven car round the twisties on a bike. Throw some rain in and the biker may as well have spent his money on a hot air balloon.

Simple test, take a standard hayabusa and any standard car, which is faster? Take a modded Busa and a modded car, straight line, acceleration, bikes are by far the best, round corners car

Take him to the ring in the wet and he will soon see where the term "mobile chicane" comes from!

Macca F1 vs busa - over a set distance with straights and bends the car will win....

Lap times of a road bike on track are very simular to cars, slower if you have say a GT2 or somert.....vs a busa cause they are shite on track.

Bikes are faster off the mark and mainly in a striaght line.

Enterance speed and exit speed of bends is slower.

Really depends on the challenge.

Gracie,
I think you will find that is more to do with the fact that if you fall off your bike and the Ring, you can easily "buy the farm" .

You could always show him this...

Very interesting graph that stu.

Must admit i would have thought the escos with 600bhp would have done the busa but clearly not from that one, just goes to show how awesome they are as standard.

Even rod tarry's car would get shown a clear pair of heals by even a basic turbo busa.

Straight line bikes are king unless you are talking huge money available in your budget.

As dingy says, different depending on the challenge, at a 1/4 mile day even standard bikes will cane heavily modified serious cars, but at the ring its nothing like that!

So not exactly overweight with with stereo gear etc then, makes the bike seem even more impressive.

PS

so to summarise for the original thread starter.

When making anything like a fair comparison (ie not a 8K bike against a 600K car) your mate at work is completely correct, for acceleration and top speed bikes completely kick cars arses.

Go and apologise to him

60 - 150 for martins car = 10.76
60 - 150 for the busa = 8.33

So if you meet a busa when you are cruising along on the motorway, even if you are in a 600bhp escos you can expect to be handed your arse basically.

People who think bikes are mobile chicanes at the ring better hope two things:

a: they dont meet fast bikers
b: they are doing less than 8:20 laps all the time

I met a couple of FAST bikers during my first couple of laps at the ring in the evo, they caught me up and past me. Pegs scraping sparks flying, i managed to keep up but that was it. The lap time I was pulling on that particular lap was circa 8:30...

so gracie I presume u either came across slow bikes, bikes in the wet, or your well rapid.

Dont discount a bike at the nurburgring

RW

It was wet when gracie went.

To be fair, i was in mike rainbirds car with him when a course marshal on a bike pulled onto the track at the same time, he finished a good couple of dozen seconds in front of Mike.

Mainly though, bikes suck at the ring, just cause so few people REALLY have the talent to ride them.

And even the ones doing 8:20 laps etc STILL hold you up on the corners, they get good lap times cause they dismiss the high speed sections so quickly, but come up behind even a biking hero at somewhere like adenaeu forst and he is going to slow you up in even a very mundane car.

mine is 60-150 9.22 on my GT35 conversion would be sub 9 now so i could scare a Busa at any speed i met him. One ran 198 at Brunters i expect 210+ next time.

you are comparing a VERY modified (one of the best engines in the world?) cossie with a totally standard Busa and you still cant quite match it in the sort of speed range that is useful for overtaking.
Let me nitrous that busa, let alone turbo it too, and you wouldnt even get close Rod.

And if you cant, then its safe to say that most cars cant!

is a hayabusa even still the fastest bike that you can buy? i know that there are more powerful bikes out there, but maybe not as aerodynamically efficient or heavier?

Never said mine could beat any bike Chip just gave the figures, but it does show why my old girl scares them to death.
A local Rider recently heard me comming up behind him & egged on by my son decided to have a go, Saw him change down twice as we approached a roundabout the one mile ringroom straight was looming, he then looked back & saw who it was & guess what he went completely round the roundabout & went back the way he came. My son knew him & said he knew what was about to happen & didnt want to Know., it was only a 750gxr or some such Bike not a contest really.

only one thing to say really. cars aren't very quick when they are sat in a traffic jam!!

who needs 600bhp, 4wd, nitrous etc when you're filtering through on your 49cc scooter.

Erm, bikes rule. Cars suck. End off

Comparing Moto GP to F1 is pointless imo.
Will be interesting to see how Rossi fares if he goes to Ferrari

The only decent comparison between cars and bikes I've ever seen was the feature EVO ran with Superbike last year.

The only car to beat the bike was the Radical and only by split seconds

50k track car against 8k superbike. Clear winner there, regardless of lap times

Thrill wise, my 380bhp Saff came no where near the buzz of thrashing my Firestorm, old R1, fireblade etc.

Oh and it takes me 6 minutes to get to work in rush hour on the bike. Used to take 15-20 in the car

Just accept your mates right and go buy a bike

its simply a case of power to weight ratio and traction. i could wipe the floor with a busa in a straight line and on track! with a busa powered go-cart. and thats a form of car. so no... bikes arent always faster than cars.

How many cars can run 7 second quarters for 10k?

4k Hayabusa, plus 6k worth of bits from Holeshot racing equals a 7 second, 550bhp bike

http://www.holeshotracing.co.uk/tuni...yabusa_550.asp

Thrust SSC etc is hardly a car.

This is more impressive.

Two wheels, one jet engine, 250+mph and road legal

how many bikes can you ride and not look stupid?
how many bikes keep you nice and warm?
or dry?
thrust ssc has more than 2 wheels and has a steering wheel, therefore is a car (motorcarriage!) so far more impressive than ANY other land going vehicle!
ill race ya,my yaris vs your 550bhp hayabusa! in the wet for 500 miles, bet i win!
