Can anyone tell me are s1 and s2 ecu interchangable. Im looking at buying an s2 chipped ecu for my s1, i have two choices one has the same colours as mine the other dosent, will either work.

blue red blue is a s1.. i have seen a s1 with a blue red white and that worked fine, however how the car will run/perform i dont know.
my advise is take both to a rolling road and ask them to try both and get the car set up properly, might cost an hours labour but worth it imo

Mine has blue red black. I have just rebuilt the engine with a piper cam, ported +polished, new turbo ,31 actuator and a larger intercooler so would like a chipped ecu now. Only have 400 miles on it yet when i hit 1000 miles i look at getting it on a rolling road.

I was told by a tuner the other day that not all S2 ECU's will work on a S1.
He said only 86 version will work (is this blue red white?), but a mate of mine uses a 88 ECU.
Maybe this moment lies where Ford introduced the knocksensor for the S2?

I have a chipped blue red white on my S1 and took off a std blue red blue, these chips do not have knock sensor facility where as blue red black and hearts diamonds do. Pre 87 cars did not have knock sensors(green sensor on manifold) where as the post 88 cars did
