Default RING TRIP DATES AND TIMES ETC (april 2006)

Right, i know that cossymad has booked on the 14th-18th, so is that ok with everyone else so that we can start putting together some info for people on what ferry and tunnel crossings to use and get hotels booked etc?

Personally i would have liked to have gone over a little later just so that the weather is guarenteed not to be snow, but iits probably going to be fine.

Provisionally shall we agree on:
9am outward journey from folkestone
6pm return journey from calais

hotel wise, just anywhere near the ring, im going to stay at the zurburg probably just cause i liked it last may when we stayed, its got a good sized carpark, and its walking distance to the ring entrance and we could see the track from our bedroom window!

anyone got any objections to those dates, if so speak now or forever hold your peace!

We cant set the dates according to one persons holidays, im sure you can change shifts, if all else fails, just start sleeping with the boss

Cossymad has already booked for the 14th, and later is better from a weather point of view, this year that couple of weeks was the difference between snow and sunshine!

The only problem is that that is the Easter weekend, which is good for not having to take any time off work, but bad because every fucker and his dog will be there .

Just have to get up VERY early in the mornings to ensure some decent track time . However, this leads to the problems of black ice that the Ring can see at that time of year that early in the morning .

Mike, i dont see the track being busy as a big issue, people will still EASILY get 20+ laps in if they want to, although obviously if you are a laptime freak it means getting held up by traffic on the track a bit, but personally i prefer having lots of peopel to overtake (and get overtaken by too for that matter) as it makes it all a bit more lively

Chip,
That's not the issue, when it is busy, it can take 20 minutes to get off the circuit after each lap as the queue to get off extends all the way down to the "gantry" , and it is THIS that causes lack of track time . People then get impatient and accidents start to happen. When it was like this in May, I never saw the track closed so often due to accidents - it was almost as bad as this year's ND .

Mike, we didnt have any of those problems this year, we got in and out happily enough.

Besides if all else fails just wait till the end of the day when:

Lots of people have crashed or broken down and so are not around
Lots of people are going home for tea and so are not around
the track has plenty of heat in it

Me and john did 6 laps in less than an hour and a half last year one evening starting from about 5:30 or so!

The only thing in favour of going the weekend suggested is that this year for the first time that I have known it to happen, they merged the Grand Prix circuit with the Nordschliefe over the Easter weeked . This is something I have yet to experience .

Considering the Nordschleife is longer than that I would expect the whole thing to be longer.

I'm up for going a bit later, as per beginning of this year's trip, was a spot on time.

Firstly the reason I booked easter weekend is because of the 4 days of continuous opening times.
Last Easter was the end of march, hence everyone went in May instead.
The year before that we went in April (Easter) and there was no rain, it was a little cold, but that was easily bearable.
I can change my booking if need be.
I am not fussed when I go, and as the openning times are not available until 01/01/2006, I could be completely wrong!!!
The track is better when less busy, but boring if too dead.
There are lots of Nova's that would kick serious cossy arse, and this would be good to see, but the 200 miles in under 2 hours is a testiment to the cars on the last trip. I have had my arse handed to me by a Nova before, but after 120mph it's a different story.

we were there then at Easter when it opened, really good to do and plenty of run off, which i needed when my rear disc shattered, imagin if that bit of track was not open.

Think i will be going at Easter with JC and others.

I'm up for this - should have a bit of decent reliable power by then.

Whenever suits me, but the warmer and drier the better, cos my R888s like that kinda weather....

Keep us posted Chip

I'd like to book as early as possible, so it's sorted cos i'm shit with things like that lol. It'll be my first trip so will be going for the experience - i dont think a busy track/poor weather can spoil things as long as i'm with good company

As Sean say's don't care when, just let me know.

I'd prefer a quiet period as I'd like to reduce my chances of getting killed by some rich twat in a 911

Oh, and as big a chance as possible of dry weather please, I don't like getting wet
