Default STANDARD TURBO OR NOT

Hi all,

I've got a hybrid turbo on my rs and am thinking of changing it to a standard one as I've lost all drivability. Its really laggy and just is no fun. If anyone has got a standard turbo they want to sell me can they send me a PM.

Cheers
Dave

You may have a .55 exhaust housing. Get a .48 and you'll be laughing!

What actuator would be suitable for this turbo. I have a -31 on it at the minute. The housing is a .48 off a sierra 4x4. The engine is low comp and running a standard chip at the minute due to me having problems with the one I had. I am poicking up a chipped ECU today from Ian in sheffield so I'll see how that goes.
It would be a shame to get rid of the turbo due to me only just having it built. Thought if I'm getting one reconned I might aswell go all the way and only have to do it once.

Cheers
Dave

I don't know to be honest. I thought due to it having a bigger housing it would take more pressure for the turbo to spin up.

Sounds like your in the same boat as me..I have a saff 4x4 cossie turbo on mine.boost dont come in full till about 4.3k in 2nd.

Basicly the turbo is too big and just takes along time to spin up..

Im going for a t3 stage 2 hybrid 50 trim wheel and 36 exhaust hsin..if u go for sumat like that i recon it sud sort the boost threshold issue out

Looks like I'm on the look out for a Turbo then. I wish I'd kept my old one and rebuilt that.

Thanks for all the help.

Just get the exhaust housing changed for a standard item. Not expensive to do and saves changing the whole turbo.

Stage 3 hybrid really is a bit too big until you start climbing the power ladder. I'm on a Stage 2 hybrid an that still retains the standard exhaust housing and I still managed 248bhp with 265lb torque.

Just fitted the new chipped ECU checked the timing etc and am only running 10 psi and the car has changed altogether. It now goes like stink. Also disconnected my dump valve which I think has started to leak.

I heard nothing but good stuff about them. I took the car to Well Lanes in Leeds not so long back but wasn't too inpressed with them when I found out for myself my chipped ECU was goosed and not altering the ignition timing at all causing my Turbo to glow red hot after short runs.
