Default front brakes failed

driving to work this morning and came to stop at a quiet t-junction just off the road i live on and the brakes failed.

foot went to the floor but nought happened

pumped it a couple of times and locked the rears up and managed to stop. pulled into a stop and just before i got out to check for leaks i pumped it a few more times and i had a pedal again.
drove on very carefully and all was fine for the rest of the journey

i'm assuming either moisture or air in the front lines somewhere, does that sound right?

cant be a leak as the pedal came back and its not a sticking component so must be the above?

not done it before and not done it since - i wondered if it was because of the damp morning as i've just got the motor and have only previously driven it on hot days?

any ideas folk?

Other options are the hub nuts are loose and its pushing the pistons back in the caliper due to the floating disc. Or the hub is cracked allowing the same thing to occur.

I'd go for the master cylinder as well.

My vec did the same as I came upto a roundabout. Pumped the pedal & it worked ok..no signs of leaking (as it wasn't..it was just pushing fluid past the seal). Luckily I wasn't booting it.

Get it checked properly mate. The cylinder may *just be on its way out & therefore it is mostly ok and working fine (like the rest of your journey). Have you noticed any lack of performance on them since you've been driving it, or have you literally JUST bought the car? My vec brakes seemed to be slowly getting worse, but thought I needed some new discs/pads: once the cylinder got replaced, brakes were excellent again. No brakes is the last thing you want..especially if you really need them in an ememrgency
