Rover boy strikes
Had a chap at work this morning ask why I bothered doing up my XR3i when his Rover 620Ti will do 0-60 in 6.5 seconds and tops out at 147mph?
I told him the stats were nearer 7.9 seconds for the 0-60 and I seriously doubted his claimed top speed. He told me it defo did it as he's had the speedo needle there

Hi mate Ive got a 820 Vitesse which has the same engine and although I dont really believe his 0-60 I have to say Ive seen a clock reading of 150 many times out of mine

I know some Rovers can fly but this guy was talking out his backside. The way he was talking about it anybody would think he was driving a super car crushing motor not a horrible white box with a travel rug on the back seats
A mate of mine used to own a 220 Turbo (before he saw the light and got a Cossie
) with allegedly loads done and it was only just on par with my then 180bhp RST.

Good cars those Rover 620ti
Excellent low budget performance family saloon, big, comfy, fast and with a few toys
Speedos are normally miles out at big speeds on most cars though.

Andy Nicolls may have had a very fast car but mention Maestro to alot of people and they'll see the B&Q carpark on a Wednesday OAP 10% off day.
Does'nt matter what Skoda produce - the stigma is there to stay IMHO.
What comes into your head when I mention Nissan Bluebird ????
Alan Partridge did'nt do Rover any favour at all, the same thing he's now done to Lexus
Cheers

I had a rover 800 Vitesse sport lux (to give it it's full title), full leather all the extras, 64k full stainless, on an M plate, it wasn't heart stopping but did shift, cheap as chips aswell, lots of car for the money and embaressed a few people of the lights, sold it a year later for what I paid for it.
But all the birds I know called it an old mans car, which is what a Rover is!!!
Had a 216 coupe aswell, ran sweet as a nut until the engine seized solid, still think they are alot better than the Caliber which I would say is it's equal.

Indeed @ under-rated.... Jsut ask Andy Nichols to demo his 220 coupe for ya
My mate Brett had one before his current Audi S4... It was slightly fettled, but not a lot.... One of my first expiriences in it was he came over to meet at mine to go out to a big cruise he was helping organise. He had to shoot to Sth Mimms before everyone else so I said I'd go with him. Caining it down the motorway I realsised we were going "rather quick" so I asked what speed we were doing. His reply was a very relaxed "oh, jsut about to come up on 155mph"

I like em a lot apart from the fact the build quality is shit

when i said its only a rover - its the whole image associated it with it.
I have owned a couple rovers myself over the years, the best one being a 216 GTI, standard power 130bhp which is on par with standard RS turbos and still gave 50 miles to a fiver
Showing 174k and ran sweet as a nut.
Worst one was a 218 SD - fookin peice of ship
But i would not buy another rover again - they are too problematic.
A mate owns a ZT thing - green saloon with all the big spoilers - its a 51 plate and he has nothing but hassle from it since day 1

its a shame for rover and mg, they need some new idea. Hell id offer to design them a new car if they wanted, theyve been re-badging the 200/400/800 = 25/45/75 for ages now.. and then theres the mg's!
Shame!
