Would the air con system (loom switchs pipes pump condenser etc..) out of a 1992 spec sapp go straight in to a 1990 sapp or is there more work to do rather then simpley plug it all together???

Does the air-con kit run on a poly v belt.

Does your car have poly v belt pulleys.

the late cars fitted with air -con run a poly v belt.

Should be easy enough to get it wired in, only the switch isn't it.

the bulkheads different on the latespec sapphires to allow for the ford aircon, i suppose you could bash it in a bit to make room, plus late spec (green top engines) are all polly v, cheers nomad

What about the 2000E models, did they have a different bulkhead

Fitted air-con to them.

1990 models too.

The aircon bulkead has a box about 15" wide, 4" high and 4" deep for the larger airbox to slot into in the engine bay.

If the dash and everything else is out it isn't hard to do, it is just a big box you need to fabricate - or do like me and cut it out of the donor.

having the windows open and driving at speed can use as much additional fuel as using air con, as well as being noisy.

if you've ever had proper working air con in hot weather for any distance (and know how to use it properly), you'll never want to be without it again.

air con systems contain gas under pressure - be careful when working on them. it's not too difficult to take a complete system from a sierra fitted with factory fit air con and fit most of it to one that wasn't. as has been said before, the bulkhead is different to make space for the evaporator and air recirculation system. the wiring is a bit tricky, and you must have all protection devices working. and additional large electric fan as factory fitted or better will be required on the front of the condensor. that fan will be one of the biggest users of electrical power on the whole car, so make sure that you've got an alternator and wiring that is up to it.

my mk1 escort has air con, necessary cos i fitted fixed polycarbonate windows for light weight - the weight of the a/c system was way more than what i saved by loosing the glass and the mechanisms, but it was worth it for the proper cooling you get in the summer.
