timing chains
just bought a 2l gt sierra and found out its dohc engine has timing chain rather than a belt
anyone know how often chain should be done and how i can tell if been done recently or needs doing ?

Ford recomend 100K for the replacement of the chain and tentioners.
thay dont give you any warning thay just snap.
i have knowen the chains to last considarbly longer.
change the oil pump ghain at the same time.

I would change it every 50k to be on the save side thats what i did in mine,and i was told that to because you never know when it'll snap, that was at 140k it was a bit noisey like,after it ran sweet as a nut!
it's an age related too
the chain is easy to change, it comes as a kit for about £140 including chain, tensioner, the sproket thing etc and you can do it in a few hours
just make sure you put thread lock on the bolts for the guides as they rattle loose and kill the engine
